If it wasn't for those bars my panels would be in a very different shape. I know not all of us care about body work but i would prefer to not cause damage if i have the option. Mine is more than happy to slide along on two wheels resting on the cage.. Only time i have ever gotten caught, if it wasn't for the down tube i would have had no rear QTR left.. I think its a personal preference thing.

It's a fair point we don't care about our panels, but we care a great deal about our windscreen frames (if we cant fold the screen)
Adding bars in front of the rear wheelarch, or in the extreme case, adding bars around the flares, is just creating anchors and protecting something that should need protection, or doesn't need it in the first place.
Steve.

I've had mine over quite a few times with my welded-to-the-cab exo and it's done the job, but like caring about panels, I don't care very much if mine falls over.
I guess you need to know what you are protecting yourself from. Stock sierras cope well with a light flop, which is all 19 out of 20 rolls are for our driving, so there's no need to get too carried away adding weight.

Sorry to go OT, but does that have 3/4 elliptical and drop shackles?
Not surprised it has pretty good rear flex, but it must suffer some rear driveline dramas too.

Yeah it does have both. I am just playing with ideas at the moment. It is a bit over the top but have not run into any big dramas yet. Still can't get full flex tho not sure if it is the tail shaft or the trac bar binding.

Mine's on an LJ and doesn't have flares but it has fallen over plenty of times and is slippery enough to drive it back onto it's wheels most times. I agree that you don't want any anchors to get caught up and MUST protect windscreen frame (and firewall and front clip). Mine is mod plated and I couldn't have left much steel out and still call it a rollcage. If you don't crossbrace properly it you might as well not bother.

By now you've probably all seen mine.
I am planning on welding the front connections of the front top bars together, as they are removable atm, and adding a single bolt diagonal.
I also have a windscreen triangle frame that bolts on.
This cage has saved much panel damage. I have had it sitting on the sills and leaning against trees, against embankments and dropped the bottom corners of the rear bar at the drop in to a gully or hole.
