OK, another problem that seems to come and go is with the rear brake lights. For a few weeks I've had no rear brake lights at all, poking around the last 24 hours I can confirm it's not the bulbs or wiring, and aha i've just spotted this guy behind the ignition on the steering column:



Looking where it's located i'm thinking it might be a brake light trigger? I have a spare green wire and 12v after cleaning up the wiring - are they for this part?

I would reckon so, that sure is a brake light switch

There's one on the left of the column too.... for the clutch? Huh?

there is an emmisions one for the clutch to turn the egr off

on the break switch side of things there there should be a wire with 12+ all the time and
one that is to your tail light and
yes that the part for the break switch its the same on almost every car i worked on

As suggested you should have two wire coming off the brake light switch. They can also fail. The ford switches for the EF/EL Falcons were common for this.

Well that was fiddly. The 12v feed to the switch was dead

Checked it - it was OK.

Try another fuse anyway.

No joy with a new fuse. I might run a new line to the brake light fuse point though so wiring isn't a random mess.

sure you have the right wire, you arent trying the wire down to teh lights are you

are brakes battery feed? sure they arent ignition?

I just used the loose ones available - which was a paired white/yellow wire, other wire was a green bloke. I used one of the pair as a constant 12v feed for the immob (which is working a treat), the other one is DOA. Checked with a test light, no action ign on or off either.

Green side has to be right as it's got the tail lights fired up once I got 12v from elsewhere.



Someone's had a fiddle behind here before, dash screws are non-virgin, too many connectors and plain black wire - not the usual Suzuki colour coded perfect order

hang on, you know one wire has 12v cause you powered the immobiliser with it, you know the other goes down to teh back cause you put power in from antoher source but still nothing happens?

twist the white yellow and green together, if you get brake lights youve got power, if nothing happens after you hook em both to teh switch the switch is stuffed or its not switching, unscrew it and see if they light up then

Brake lights work (well, the left one does )

I had two white/yellow wires from the same bit of mini loom, one wire is dead - won't light a test light, nor the tail light if you bypass the switch. The other wire is now the immobilser feed. So at the fusebox, my brake light fuse now controls the immobiliser.

But at the fusebox there's only one white/yellow wire coming out of the brake light fusing point (not two), so not sure if that second wire has any function - it might be an unfused aux wire...
