I had the wobble pretty bad too, to the point i would do everything to avoid going on the highway!
did a 50mm efs lift, castor correction, 235's, and a return to centre steering dampener and now it is awesome to drive, no wobble and sticks to the road a shot load better, the jimny's standard suspension is just crap!
just a question, would replacing the standard jimny radius arms with something longer like a patrol radius arm, would this make handling better again, and ride comfort?

Yeah I think scales's problem is a little more than a wobble. It always had a small wobble at around 70 which I think it still does but he is talking about violent steering wheel movement where the whole car shakes in a big way and you have to physically stop the vehicle to make it go away as you can't steer. It only started to happen after lifting so something has put it out of wack in a big way.

Ive replaced the arms with massive heavy duty ones from jimnybits.
Also, i have no guarantee the massive wobble wasnt already there before the lift. i have only had the car a short time.
btw i "re centered" the RTC damper just by loosening its grip on the steering arm. it didnt move much (if at all) i gave it a wobble and tightened it back up. ill see how it goes.
BTW Mav, found some sick tracks my side of the hill...... she got a bit dirty this arvo....

well i got the shims from suzuki yesterday ($15 total for 4)
there was no upper shims on either side so i put them straight in, the grease in there was nice and fresh from when the last owner had the work done.
when i popped the lower pins i found 2 home made shims (!!!!) on each side, they were DODGEEEY so i took them out and put a single suzuki one on each side.
Tightened everything up (how tight do you do the kingpins bolts up?? they seem to go forever, i dont wanna overdo it)
Seems pretty good on a test drive, no violent death steer, but definatley a slight shimmy still. I might change the lower bearings on the off chance that the shitty shims beat them up a bit.

well after i did the shims last night, i think its worse. got the death wobbles 3 times on the way to work today, its so dangerous, i can almost make it happen now, but sometimes it just surprises you and you end up dropping the anchors just waiting for someone to rear-end me!
im going to order a set of wheel bearings and kingpin bearings off ebay and have a look at rebuilding the whole lot, im thinking that maybe the lower kingpins may have been flogged a bit since there was 1mm worth of dodgy shims in there.
What do you guys think??

1mm is a lot of shimming and probably has crushed the bearings. Strange that they'd only shimmed the bottom.

yeah i thought it was a bit bizzare too, im thinking they thought it was too hard to get the caliper out of the way to do the tops.
im hoping that the lazyness carrys over to not bothering to change the wheel bearings because of the crazy tool required. ive got one on order so ill be changing them too.
are those prices on the ebay links about whats expected? i notice they dont include the circlip that is listed on bigjimnys bearing listing... i guess ill just re-use the old one.

I was just going to suggest Ben's tool too. I've got one and it is very useful.
Try and get hold of some Morey's Bigfoot EP 2 Grease for your bearings.
Its expensive and super sticky but possibly the best stuff if you intend to take the little girl up to the cape. You will find it at Tractors places.
Edit: you can reuse the circlip.

I bought my swivel hub kit from that ebay seller, quality was good and the price is good too.
Contact Weaves for the wheel bearings though as he'll probably be cheaper.

sweet thanks guys,
ive just ordered the whole set of bearings from that ebay mob, i rang them up and did express post so i get by weekend hopefully. 270 all up.
also lashed out on a mcnaught grease gun and some of that bigfoot grease.
if this doesnt work im going to cry like a little bitch, i had death wobbles on the way to the lubricant shop and nearly crashed into a barina. think i might have to shed the car for a while and ride my motorbike.
EDIT: just checked my ebay page, looks like i ordered from Ben without even knowing, LOL
EDIT2: I just ordered some "soft" poly bushes for my new shocks from jimnybits also, i sorta chewed the new ones up a bit when i installed them, anyone got a tip to avoid this??? also on how to install the new ring bushes when i get them??

well i got the bearings today, not bad for overnight delivery
looks like a good kit, main bearings are koyo, the kingpins are FBJ, hopefully theyre a good brand.
Just waiting on the bearing tool then its all systems go. also waiting on an e10 socket from ebay.
would deliberatley putting a slight negative camber on help my cause?

IMO I would get everything else tight and to spec before bending your diff.
I'm not discrediting, negative camber has an effect, I just don't think jumping to conclusions without real evidence is going to help.
The only way i can see is to remove all the possible known confounding influences that cause the Jimny wobble first,
then have people with and without Jimny wobble post up their front end alinement results to compare camber.

ill probably get it re aligned when ive done all the replacements. I also got some new tie rod ends to change as the ones on there have a bit of grease leaking out and sorta feel a bit loose compared to these new ones

Scales with out power steer you shoudl sitll make sure there is no play in your steering assembly.
I am going to try adjusting my power steering up a little bit.
I have got my wobble to only occur above 90 now, when i started it was real bad from 60 upwards.
