4psi rule is good but not bulletproof... i do all mine by trial and error... for instance my BFG KM2 (31") are stiffer in the sidewall than my KL71 (also 31") however the KL71 perform better on the road at 25psi front and 20psi rear, while the KM2 are best at 26psi front and 22psi rear... offroad i can let the KL71 down to 8psi without issue and get maximum tyre bagging, however the KM2 cant go below 9psi or they pull off the bead... take all that and then throw it out the window, cos running simex ETs i needed to rund 22psi front and 18psi rear cos they were so stiff, and even then the center wore well faster than the rest of the tread (bias tyres though).
anyway, each tyre and tyre size is different... as much as i agree 30psi will be too much for a jimny, it might well just be right for the tyre he's running.
i read the tyre placard on hooki's LJ80 the other week and it suggests 17psi unladen and 17psi laden =D haha

How do you define "perform better"?

arnt you a pen pusher royce? what you got to do with the vehicle industry?? beside your dodgey wire looms lol.
have you completed any skid tests in wet/ dry conditions with different tyre pressures? or you just saying what your have read of somewhere. then shunning everyone else lol.

i do agree that tyre shops put to much pressure in tyres when i got my federals they put 36psi all round i drove out the drive and almost come straight back in. I know the guys at bob jane and asked them the next day why they tried to kill me. They reckon its to do with the compound of the tyres today that you will get alot better wear out of them if you run them with more pressure because apparently the rubber after awhile con caves in and you get alot of wear on outside of tyre.
i let mine down to 30 and they drive well with that much pressure in them and they have been wearing evenly.

True, but it won't result in 30psi as optimum for a Jimny with light truck tyres on it.

i test mine by the contact patch on the road to start with (well, the driveway) - i just wet the driveway and roll over it and see how much tread was contacting the ground... i make sure the pressure is enough that the outside 20mm or so of tread each side doesnt touch. This is how i got the pressures i stated previously.
I then check pressure after a highway run to ensure its gone up a few psi but no more than 5psi... if more i inflate by 2psi and try again later.
i would have thought a good pressure for a jimny on 235s would be around 24 front and 22 rear though.

Quote: A good way of double-checking that your pressures are correct for your application is the 4psi rule, recommended as a good rule-of-thumb for accurate, appropriate tyre pressures.
Check tyres cold and then straight after a decent highway run you should see a 4psi (0.275 bar) increase. If it is less, you have set your cold tyre pressures too high; if it is more, then you have set them too low. Adjust the cold pressures accordingly and check the results when hot again and you should have a 4psi difference.

Oh hi fuck knuckle, sorry I missed this please accept my apologies.
Thankyou for your interest in my career path, no doubt my silence has troubled you. You might be interested to know that I decided I wouldnt earn my wage as a mechanic anymore some years ago to push pens so maybe just maybe there is a little bit of knowledge in what I say
You might also be interested to learn that I gave up on that trade as I was sick to death of having to work with young cock holsters like yourself that think they know some cool shit cause they got grease on them once but really had no idea on how to do anything bar change oil and sparkplugs.
So yeah ill stick by my original statement that nobody here (bar maybe a very small few) have the knowledge to even begin to have a clue on what suitable pressures are nor how to come about them, even still well into this page people are giving the correct way to come close to working out a correct pressure and are being ignored whilst others are going on with totally incorrect methods and getting support for it and its results.
