Yes it will work.
And power will be noticeable
You will need a longer timing belt and adaptor plate for gearbox and engine mounts

and you'll need a 1.3 sump and modified pickup

I have a 1.6 bottom end with 1.3 head and carby.
You differently will notice power gain.
I would tune the carby for the 1.6 bottom end, mine is very thirsty.

My understanding is that it'll work, I'm about to do the same thing. The only other consideration that I can think of is that your exhaust system might not reach the manifold. That's just a guess, I assume someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I've read a couple of other threads that suggest rejetting the carb to suit.

Good right up here

I have a 1.6 block with 1.3 head and had the 1.3 carby rebuilt and tested by a carby specialist. After testing, he removed the oversize jets and replaced them with standard jets.

Here is the 'wierd bit'. With the standard (smaller) jets and a rebuild it actually used more fuel!

That makes my head hurt.... can someone shed some light on why that may be?

Where's the extra power coming from?
Is the chamber smaller on the 1.3 upping
The compression?

Longer stroke and more capacity from the bigger bottom end.

And I'd say power would be fairly similar to stock 1.3, but torque would be improved.

Just install a complete G16A? Am I missing something?

Do 1.3lt heads have smaller chambers upping comression?
Do the 1.3lt inlet manifolds flow better than the 1.6?

Smaller carb. Bigger motor. More air flow thru carb draws in more fuel thru out the rev range

Certainly feels that way in mine. No extra power feels like it has a bit more torque at lower RPM.

A 1.6 top end on the 1.6 block would be even better.

I know that the carby specialist recommended the standard jets for you but is it possible that the larger jets would show an increase in power?

I thought bigger jets and a good tune would fix the drinking problem but I don't know much about this so I'll take your advice for it there's a few combos I wouldn't mind trying with engine but I'll see what happens thanks for the help legends

Just putting it out there, but i have a 1.6 Carb for sale for 400bucks it runs fine, why waste the money for minimal torque gains :)

People have been putting 1300 heads on 1600 bottom ends for a long, long time. They usually think that the car goes heaps better but that is usually because the old 1300 bottom end they took out was totally stuffed.

In the end a 1300 head, manifold and carbie on a 1600 block may be better than a stock 1300 but it will not be better than a 1600 block with a 1600 head, manifold and carbie.

Yes the 1300 combustion chamber is slightly smaller 38.2cc compared to 50.2cc but the 1300 head, manifold and carbie flow so poorly compared to the 1600 head, manifold and carbie that the compression difference is negligable in relation to performance gains.

Everything is on it. and it runs just fine, i don't believe it is smokey but then again i haven't had me head up the tail pipe, it is a complete engine still in a running vitara, just the rust has had its day and its way with the car. The engine is based in sydney, and if you want it it will be organise your own freight or come pick it up, for freight, i'd be happy to put it on a pallet and chock it up for transport on a Skid.
