I just went for a spin down to Bunker Bay - anyway - hard to miss at highway speeds, the front corners of my bonnet twist, vibrate and lift at least an inch from their sitting position when i've got some decent speed happening.

Is this the same with every Sierra? Kinda paranoid as i've had a bonnet flip up on me before at 100kph, and my current bonnet looks like it could deal me the same outcome.



Is this fixable, or am I better off sorting another way to lock down the bonnet?

fix the latch and stopper adjustment to fix the wobble some

if you are worried about it coming up again, get some thin stainless cable and make a tether you can clip to the bonnet so it will only lift 30cm or so (enough to remove and attach the tether) so if it lifts it will grab it and you can pull over

adjust the catch down to tighten it up and stop everything moving around.
make sure the bumper rubbers are contacting in the corners of the bonnet.

if all else fails , fit those rubber tie down lugs in the side/corners or zeus fastners with female bracket in corners.
most auto joints keep them as well as tractor joints etc


the bonnet should be tight down when closed

My Sierra had no bonnet catch, chopped out for various reasons. I used these made by a good mate.
Felt a bit blingy, too

pretty sure bonnet pins are now technically illegal.

fitted a set of these to a mates car a few years ago & have the benefit of being lockable.

I used to have these rubber bonnet catches on my old zook. They worked awesome. Heres a pic...

Mokes had them rubber bits, and nothing else.
Pretty scarey as they perished with time,
and bonnet surprises into windscreen were enjoyed.

Hey Atari - I tried to find these locking pins from the pic addy but no luck, where did you find these parts?

Otherwise I like your idea Royce - if it flips up and smashes the windscreen frame one more time I think the panel will be unrepairable.

I would get that seen too or fixed... when i had my 1L Sierra, my bonnet wobbled as well, no matter what i adjusted, until one day at 90kph, BANG !!!
Bonnet flew up, and i could not see where i was going, frightened shite out of me, and put a dent in my bonnet... i got some bonnet pins after that...

Fortunately, here in over governed Australia where everybody knows best, not disemboweling pedestrians that you run into is more important than being able to add tacky bits of steel to a car cause the owner cant keep the latch serviceable

any proper motorsport/rally shop will have them.... search for aerocatch/aerolatch bonnet pins online.

Joels bonnet latch ripped out the other day. Had to put in a new one that I had floating around. I'm gonna run what rpmwrx has for safety measures.

down side to these is you have to carve a fairly large hole in the bonnet.

the rubber strap things rpmwxks has are the go imo

Went to a couple of panel shops to suss out a quote on getting the latch fixed, but they basically told me it's too small a job for them to bother with. Gave Suzistore a call too, but they reckon fab work isn't really their thing...

Who can I try to get this sorted?

Ha ha it'll need welding, that's out of my range... Rather than hire a mig and take all day to do an amazingly shit job i'd rather get someone who knows what they're doing

I wouldnt worry about the getting the old latch repaired, they are flimsy at best in good condition... lol... better to look into an alternative way of holding the bonnet down, as its gonna be a big improvement over the stock one, which i wouldnt trust at all...
