I bought this vitara and wondering if it has a timing chain or timing belt? have it booked for a service and was going to have the timing belt replaced but looking online it seems it might be a timing chain? anyone tore a 1995 V6 a part? thanks for the help.

No mate but I have just torn a 2000 model V6 apart, internals are mostly the same...... I just bought a timing chain kit & oil pump from the states couldn't afford the prices here.
it's not to hard of a job to do, how many k's on it??? I ask because seems oil pump failure at 260,000ks plus is common, the exploded engine out of mine & the second hand on I bought to rebuil were about the same k's & both oil pumps were rooted!!

yea high K's 284000 but was towed for a good part of its time. I think installing a oil pressure gauge would be a great idea just to keep an eye on it. thanks for the heads up.

I'm definitely going for oil pressure when I put mine back together. Hangin out for the bits, had the bloody car for a month & only got to drive it half way home from Sydney.

is the oil pump easy to get too when putting in new timing chains?

Sump off job, I have my engine out so I am not sure of the effort required to do it in car.

i would strongly recommend replacing the o ring between the sump and crank girdle , and o ring between the girdle and block while its apart.
