2005 jimny manual 86,000kms. The missus flipped out today about a strong petrol smell coming Ito the car when I did a few inclines on a couple of ruts. When we pulled over after about 10mins of 4x4ing to check clearance that's when we noticed it was really strong.

Got home and checked where the smell is coming from, not sure if its called a charcoal canister but it looks like one, any way it was coming from there and you could see the vapours pouring out. I've got no clue what to do about it,
the only things I could think of that may caused this is:

1. no clutch fan but temp didn't go over half, I've read that jimnys usually run about a third hot.
2. Was throwing an engine light a while ago, the battery went so I recharged it and it had gone. Did a bit of reading and seen that one of the main causes of an engine light is a crank sender or the exhaust oxygen sensor, neither of these have been replaced yet.

Or to a vacuum into inlet manifold, tank one appears to be on.

It could be stuffed cannister, of course, they do die.

Check all fuel lines, too, in case a return line or other has been blocked/crushed

please any jimny m series owners could you please take a picture of yours so i can see what it looks like and please tell me where it leads to.

It is probably the not supposed to have a pipe on it.
It appears it lets air in as fuel in tank get used.
It should not let fuel out.
Easy to replace a cannister if its stuffed.

Expansion tank (above rear guard, under filler cover on Sierras) can cause issues, too,
if it fills up and can't drain properly

pretty sure that one on mine just has a hose with a u-bend in it leading to no-where... but it does re-direct the fumes down instead of up. Ill see if i can find a pic

Found it.

Its not focusing directly on the hose you want, but its definatley the one i was thinking of, because my red-arc bracket hits it. I remember thinking "oh shit its touching that hose" but when i looked at the hose, i discovered it went no-where. So i didnt care.

Even though you cant see it, it literally just bends over and its open about 1 inch from the bend.

So my problem could be a stuffed charcoal canister as a lot of fumes are coming out of the hole.

Replaced the top cap with the top off a 2013 jimny. That should stop any unwanted dirt going in the top of the hole.
But still haven't replaced the canister yet as I can't find a new one
