As title says today got a few bits sand and soda blasted 2 quarter panels bonnet tailgate windscreen surround and bullbar , got charged 350, that about average? The soda blasted bits came up great he was a bit worried about warpage on bonnet at tailgate so they were soda blasted look brand new . Pretty expensive but beats stuffing my nostrils striping it with the grinder ( now wear a mask all the time.)

I'm looking at getting a chassis soda blasted shortly but can't find anywhere in Brissie to get it done. It certainly comes up well!!

Sand blasting would be cheaper , it's only a chassis, the sand ( glass) leaves a rougher finish letting paint stick better I'm ruffing the soda blasted bits a bit to make paint stick. Sure does come up well pritty expensive but, only paid 500 to buy the car haha

Soda blasting is great but it ONLY removes paint. It won't remove rust at all, unlike sand(media)blasting.

and anyone that is even halfway good can do just as good a job or better with garnet(sand) than soda. there are many grades/sizes of garnet
plus soda is more expensive usually.

the issue with garnet on large flat panels is if the blasting guy doesnt know what they are doing yes you can warp the panel, but its easy not to warp it too if your careful and garnet blast is much better base to start paint over again. garnet blast will remove every thing rust, bog paint its perfect for chassis etc

Do most sand blasters prime it for you as well? The only ones I've had experience with always do, but that may have been our specification.

I just brought a 10gal blaster of FeeBay for $125 and do all my own stuff - Its good as you can do the part and paint it right away without worrying about surface rust starting again.

ive always asked them not to as you never really know what they have used or if it was applied properly.
it not so much of an issue say for a chassis but on panels it means every tiny bit must go before you can prep yourself.
I have had great success with a light coat (just past see through) of galmet zinc spray and have had things sit without any surface rust for 6 mths or so. you then get a rag with GP thinners and just wipe of the primer back to a clean panel/part and do your work/prep. if you dont finish the repair a haze of gal primer back over the spot until your ready again.

finger prints are your worst enemy with blasted steel , touch that metal with your hands and you will have rusty finger prints next day.
