im replacing my alternator coz its dead im getting sick of charging my battery every night and only being able to listen to the radio on the way to work and not home...

Ive read the brilliant outers post by B4T
but just wanted to double check a few things... This appears the easiest way do the conversion

So you:
1. Drain Radiator
2. Remove Radiator fan/shroud
3. Remove Radiator
4. Remove old alternator-battery charge wire & three socket plug from rear of alternator
5. Remove old alternator.
6. Remove Alternator mounting bracket
7. Drill hole in bracket to suit new 110A mitsubishi alternator from a Ford EF/E? etc...
8. Remove water pump - find a Barina multi groove water pump pulley
9. Remove main Crank pulley - Replace with Barina one???
10. Attach Barina water pump pulley
11. Attach Barina Crank pulley
12. Attach alternator mounting bracket
13. Attach New Falcon alternator
14. Attach Dayco 3PK0840 840mm multi V belt -make sure all aligned
15. Get a 70amp wire from an auto-elec with a 100amp fuseable link
16. Attach new 70amp wire direct from alternator to battery
17. Plug three socket connector into Falcon alternator
18. Check connections
19. Replace Radiator & shroud & fill radiator with coolant
20. Go buy a second battery, some big arse lights, air compressor, air horn, rear work light, 6 speaker sound system, waeco, etc...

So i think thats all i need to do but if anyone sees something blatently obvious im missing please let me know or if you know what model barina the pulleys and water pump need to come off that would be awesome too... even better if anyone had any of these laying around in melbourne somewhere... :)
cheers guys hopefully soon ill be able to drive places i know there isnt a power point at the end of the night!

hehe.. for the falcon alternator B4T pointed out the normal v pulley seems to not like strain of the 110amp alternator... didnt want to have to do this mod twice... magna eh? interesting...

alternators they usually pull out first keep em behind the desk... pulleys are the harder part... might need to buy the whole water pump...

-radiator comes out before the shroud..
-shroud goes in before the radiator

Size wise on the nuts n bolts IIRC
Crank pullys are 4x10mm(these have a key way), w/p is also 4x10mm..
THINK the alt. bottom was a 14..top maybe the same..ICR. the power was either a 12 or a 13.. um..thats it.. ill stop guessing now ;)

Vitara 1.6 w/p pullys fit the sierra w/p and mean not changing the w/p or alt. pully to fit the multi rib :) bout $20 from zook wreckers..

Barina pully on the left Sierra on the right.
Image
Image

-there is two altenators, one bosch..(AVOID LIKE THE PLAUGE) one mitsubishi..What you want ;)

Wreckers have $15 alt specials.. keep an eye out..
TAKE THE PLUG! grab a few bolts while your there, maybe a top alt. bracket if there is something useable..

cant recall which way around the wires go.. I notice I dont have a battery light come on with ignition anymore either.... odd.. yet nothing was left disconnected..hmm..

I have since discovered the easiest way to upgrade the alt is when you need to replace the water pump.

Start collecting parts. You need the swift bottom pulley and water pump pulley and an El alternator. When water pump dies DONT get the sierra one get a SWIFt water pump and fit that and the pulleys. tyhe alt will lign up perfectly and is now a multi V belt. the belt you will need is a 4v 840mm long.

The stock sierra fan is now not useable as the bolt spacings is different but you will now have more than enough power to run a thermo

Sweet so I need a swift crank pulley, replace water pump with swift water pump and get a thermo fan? Why do you love thermo fans b4t? Do you have to switch them on and off All the time or is it an auto thing?

therm fan was just easier to do.
Ive since installed a clutch fan and it works sensationally. Dont know it was off but. had the same bolt spacing so i used it.

If running a thermo use a temp switch to turn it on/off automatically but with an overide switch to turn it off for water crossings.

cool so you are using swift crank pulley, swift water pump, standard EL alternator pulley, 840mm belt and unknown radiator fan with correct bolt spacing for swift water pump?

just want to make sure i dont go wasting money buying the wrong thing atm...

oh shit just realized a clutch fan is something different entirely... anyone know of any normal radiator fans that could work (trying to save the $$$)

The Subject of this thread says EA. Is that correct? I thought it was EL/EF only.

I know for sure that AU doesn't fit.

Not sure on EA but definately EF-EL the part no. is in this snippet from my build up:

Fitted a New Alternator out of An EL Falcon, I'm Now Packin' 110Amps!
Note: In order to do this conversion as I have you will need an EL Fairmont 110amp (Mitsubishi Brand) Alternator Part Number (94AD-10300-AD), Swift/ Barina water pump and pulleys both crank and water pump ones and you'll also need to run a thermo fan because the bolt spacing on the water pump is different and you wont be able to run your standard fan unless you make a complete new fan spacer ( Way too hard without a lathe!) also needed is a thermo switch to activate the fan!
I already had the Barina Multi groove Pulleys fitted as This Engine came out of a 89'-93' Barina so just had to drill out bottom bolt on bracket and mount Alternator up with long M10 fine thread bolt all the way thru!
Image
Image
then just bolt up original top bracket no bending needed and check alignment, all seemed to line up fine:
Image
Also orig belt was too short was 812mm got one 840mm long and is a perfect fit! (Dayco 3PK0840).
As mine was an external reg Alternator originally I had to bridge regulator under dash just loop the wires as shown:
Image
Image
and connect alternator wiring up. Now as mine was orig a 1ltr engine and still has all 1Ltr wiring I had to work out what wires went where? I worked it out eventually just had to make sure she was charging and all lights on dash worked properly. Here's what I did: Delete the Black wire fold it back and tape back, then connect the white/green wire to the top pin on Alt then the white/Black one to the bottom pin then just connect charge wire and she's all done! You will have to work out this end for yourselves as my wiring colors will be different unless you have an 83' ish SJ410 as well?

IVe noticed when looking for alts on ebay that some parts interchange between EL and v6 Mazda 929 so could be the same alternator, might be an option to look at

just did this mod on my coily and it was easy as, just let you know any coily owners who wish to do this you don't have to change your pulleys as they already run multigroove belts and its just a matter of cutting your old plug of and soldering on a new one, and drilling out the bracket. i used aPK0840 belt but you could get away with an 820-830 as mine was near the end of adjustment.
