My 89 1.3 new plugs done the points and timing..half a can of carby clean down the guts and still runs like a massey ferguson tractor every morning,can't drive her till its been idling for at least 5 mins wtf!. been like it for years ...........not happy , spent more time on my ex wife warming her up... and she never carried on like this

never knew they had a choke. idle adjust,,thought the solenoid on the carby when the fan was on would crank up the revs but just makes her run lumpy..will take a look tomorrow with screwdriver in hand.. thanks

Before you do that get a manual to understand what you're doing. If you've already "Done the points" in the dizzy, then you ARE NOT qualified to start making adjustments/repairs on the carb. If you're using guesswork, you'll never get it running right.

one thing ive found on many a sierra is a kinked vacuum hose for the choke unloader . what it does is partially open the choke when engine is cold so the engine runs smoothly until the wax element heats up and opens the choke by water temp.

If you look right at the base of the carb at the front theres a hose that runs to a round cylindrical "valve" white on one end green at the other end , this then goes to the choke unloader , what this does is applies vacuum to open up the choke 1/8th of an inch when the engine starts to maintain a smooth idle until the thermal wax element takes over the job of opening the choke.

it normally kinks and blocks off the vacuum passage or kinks and gets a split in it right where it attaches to the brass tube at the front base of the carby.

Fast idle screw is under the accelerator arm, engine off and cold turn the accel arm by hand the you will see a screw. Tighten to increase cold idle, loosen to lower idle. Start cold and note rpm, if to low or high turn engine off and re adjust screw.

Choke butterfly on top of carby should be closed when cold. It will slowly open when engine warms up.

These to items are linked to eachother at the back of the carby. Lever from choke arm is a stopper for the fast idle adjustment screw.
