What would you guys reccomend for a snorkel pipe diameter for a g16b in a. Sierra?

sorry, i havent taken the time to read through many build threads... what do you do with your intake? through the firewall?

FWIW the intake hose thing that goes to the exhaust on my 1l is 1.5". The summer intake on an LJ8x is 1 1/4".

I reckon same reason as myself. They would get destroyed with a particular type of wheeling.

The reason for 3" is it's the easiest diameter to get a Donaldson and a ram duct for. Yes, it's complete overkill for a Suzuki motor, but it's a balance of practicality, aesthetics and ease of fabrication. I hate the look of a small diameter pipe adapted up to 3" to take a ram duct. I'd rather do the adapting in the engine bay where I don't have to look at it all the time.

I don't like snorkels very much because they are bulky and vulnerable right in an area that gets leant on, whacked by trees etc. I also think they are a bit of a tough guy sticker- they're pretty unnecessary- the stock Sierra intake is actually in a really good position and its very hard to hydro lock a Sierra.


We also have few deep river crossings in Vic, and I try to stay out of mud that's anywhere deep enough to need a snorkel.

I have had the intake though the firewall. The noise was terrible.

Ha yeah they do cop it, my patrol's one is crushed at the top of the windscreen from trees etc, though I must say I'm glad I have it as I can be one of those nuffties trying to drive the deepest bog/water crossing ha ha
I have a 3" snorkle on my suzi and its way over the top but thats what I had in the shed....

You all have valid points, I was in toolangi and the jeep behind me got hydro locked and it made me paranoid about that happening to me, plus I want to run little desert and Simpson desert next year and figured an intake up high would be better to avoid dust,

Is there an alternative if I want to a kid ripping it off when I lay on my side?
Maybe just get silicone bends and rubber mounts so it can fall off without damaging anything, like a lizards tail

Bogga....If you didnt have a snorkel, you would have done just as much, or possibly more damage anyway....

I got a mate to make mine, I can't weld anything important.
Keeping it as tight as possible helps stop it catching on stuff.
Nothing sticking out the top stops things getting ripped off.

There is always the option of through the bonnet, not going out the side at all.
Or as I did with my Moke, a small precleaner just above bonnet.

I like that sort of thing, but it needs careful design to ensure that water that washes up the bonnet doesn't just roll into the intake.

this looks like a great setup provided that rubber has a good seal
