No, I can't argue if you fold or scrunch either, but what you can "feel" and what is real are completely different things. Cars that make more noise feel faster. Cars that ride more stiffly feel faster. Cars that are lower feel faster. Otherwise standard cars with 100 octane in them aren't faster, but some marketing guff on the pump you misinterpreted convinced you that it was going to be, so it is.

Read that marketing guff a bit harder, I think you'll notice that it won't claim your car will perform better with 100octane ethanol fuel in it, only that the fuel has higher performance, which it does. Whether you car can use that higher performance (which it can't. Really, it can't, regardless of what old mate has told you) isn't the fault of the fuel manufacturer.

Manufacturers use ethanol because it's cheap. They can maximize their profit if they bump the octane to 100 and sell it as a performance fuel.

As an aside, I work at an oil refinery.

Just because it doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean it doesn't make sense.

I am only giving my opinion on what my experience was with changing to higher octane fuel as I had the same thing happening as Karl. And like you said before, I don't know you, or any of the others that apparently have an interest in my previous posts/comments for some reason so therefor nothing you've explained before will change what I'm experiencing using these fuels. there is definitely a huge increase in performance using 98 over 91. as well as the 100 over the 98 although not massive. could be different factors involved like outside temp etc. there must be a very good reason this particular petrol station has regulars coming in from all over the place to get his fuel for their rally cars, drag and hotrods, but it seems like I won't be winning an argument with a well educated person who might have studied science. not everything you read and learn from books add up. i'm not very well educated but I sure know how to create a very fine shiraz without the use of books, it's the feeling and the experience that makes you succesfull, not a stack of books @ the university library. as for the very helpful and friendly attitude of this forum goes, it doesn't rate that high in my opinion. it seems like I get attacked on everything I say, ATARI !! clearly you are mistaking me with someone you had a run in somewhere in the outback named jack??.
I have given my 2c on this topic and leave it at that. i'll keep on browsing on here for what I need for my vitara and try not to ask too many questions.

Wine making is absolutely about experimentation, feel and experience. Burning fuel in an engine isn't. You can't "blind taste" what fuel is in your car.

Alright, I admit it, the game is up. Mobil in Melbourne refine around 70,000 barrels of oil per day. However, on every second tuesday, they stop the whole refinery and put through the "dhglory batch". They only make two barrels, and they are express shipped to the magical service station. It has an octane of 135, but contains special, top secret additives that also radically advance your engines timing, and trick airflow meters into reading extra air.
