i just bought a mint 86 drover swb today, i am going to order some new ome 2" leafs when using the commodre wagon and hiace shocks what brand shocks have people used or found best im thinking some monroe gt gas or some kyb shocks. any suggestions ??? and i havent forgotton that i will also need to do bumpstop extensions

the reason most peopole choose to use this combo is because you can get them extremely cheap through Supercheap, at only like $44 a shock. The brand most often used is Gabriel.

Hi mate.

I run the Commo/Hiace shock combo in my 91WT. Parts are:

Zuk Back Shocks: GABRIEL Part Number: 81147 - from Hiace / Hilux
Zuk Front Shocks: GABRIEL Part Number: 81340 - from VS Wagon rear

They are cheap which is a bonus, but they actually DO work well for me. The main complaint that people have is that they are valved a bit 'firm' for a zook. Mine softened up quickly and they ride/flex well. Also, they are a gazillion times better than the "ULTIMA" branded shocks you can purchase off eBay. I know this because when I got my zook, they were in it.

You obviously know about the bump stops, but DON'T FORGET TO EXTEND YOUR BRAKE LINES! I had new lines made up 100mm longer all round. Was worth the $100ish. I got them done at my local ABS. They did a great job. Don't take the risk with second-hand lines.

cheers for the help guys, and yeh i did forgot to mention about extended brakelines thats also on the list to do, its a shame i dont have enough time to do all this before we head out to the morgan quarry this weekend.On the subject of extended bumpstops is 25mm (1") the norm or should i go more like 50mm (2') people seem to have done both. cheers anton.

I measured mine up, and found that I only needed around and inch of bumpstop extension, but I would get under the car and make sure as there can be a fair bit of variation from setup to setup.

cheers mate what sort of shackles are you using as i was thinkin of using some superior drop shackles, so i would probably need more length in my brakelines ??

yea, just wondering if the brakelines have to be extended if theres only 2" extended springs?

My shackles are stock.

The general opinion shared by most (but not all) zook owners is that drop shackles are a bad idea, partly due to their occasional unpredictable nature and their ability to un-weight the car at the worst possible time. In other words, FLOP is not the same as FLEX.

Thats just my 2c... There is plenty of discussion about this topic, so do a search and see what you find!

Also, if you fit 2" lifted springs and longer travel shocks, then extended brake lines are a must.

just thought id give an update i have just completed my lift i ended up using a OME 2" lift kit using the gabriel shock part numbers given to me by pezooki (cheers mate) i had my brakelines extended 100mm by pbr, now all i gota do is bumpstop extensions and i have to make some sort of spring and bracket to pull the brakelin away from the tyres as they rub when turning.I also removed my sway bar, now i have 2 inches of lift and some decent flex and i dont think the ride is that much harder than stock.Best of all it hasnt even cost me a grand and i also fitted 30" kumho kl71's and they dont rub anywere. cheers guys

with the brake lines put a twist in them and that will keep it away from the tyres.
