Does anyone happen to be familiar with the ADR rules about tyres protruding past the front or rear of a vehicle? I do not mean out to the side from the flares but rather:

1. Are they allowed to protrude past the front of the vehicle by any amount at all? (pretty sure I read they are not) and if not how does this rule not apply to wheels on other vehicles ie bikes and some machinary that has conditional road registration?

2. What exactly is classed as part of the vehicle? is the bar work regarded as the vehicle as in the tyres could protrude past the vehicle body as long as there is barwork that is at a point further then the leading edge of the tyre?

3. Is there any ADR regarding how much you can lengthen a wheel base by?

well considering even the simplest rules say that the tyre tread needs to be covered by guards, no part of the tyre is going to legally be allowed to be forward of the panels and exposed.

Ok so as long as it is covered by guards from the top it should be able to go all the way pretty much inline with the front of the vehicle or past as long as the guard covers it when looking down from above?

when i talked to an engineer, last.

he said the if you modify the wheelbase, it then becomes an ICV and a lot more hassle
notably i didn't inform him that the RUF would alter the wheelbase.

You need rear mudguards. Therefore onroad you need removeable mudguards and a removeable frontclip for your buggy car.

when i engineered mine i added about 200mm to my wheelbase - tyre's dont stick out past the body anywhere though... but i asked the engineer about the whole front of the tyre being exposed at the front and he said its totally legal - body and barwork must deflect a pedestrian over the bonnet but there's nothing in the laws about protecting them from the tyres.

Mine was at least 1 original crossmember left, otherwise its icv.

Wheels must be completely covered top view. Covered except for 300 to ground rear view. Not sure front view, mines passed though.
