Hi people I just joined this forum and I apologize in advance if this topic has already been covered. I did use the search function but did not find anything on the subject. I just got a 98 model Stockman with one of those 1000cc Maruti engines in it...and yeah I want a bigger one for it.... I'm wanting to know what a suitable conversion motor would be for doing a bit of off road work as well as being able to sit on around 120km/ph on the highway.

lol ignore that guy... most common swap is a vitara 1.6 EFI motor. Do a search, there's a TON of info on how its done =)

If you're running larger tyres you will want to address your gearing.

235/75r15 would want 4.16 tcase gears, 30-31" tyres will want 5.14 or 6.5 depending on engine size (5.14 for 1.6 and 6.5 for 1.3 IMO).

Lots of things have been dropped into them. 4AGE G13B CA18 SR20 even rotaries.

I'm in the process of gathering parts for the Vitara 16A conversion on my Maruti, It's not as straight forward as the 1.6 into a a 1.3. You will need a 5sp gearbox to bolt up to the 1.6 eng, 1.3 clutch, flywheel and 1.3 clutch bracket. A Ben T eng/gearbox adapter, narrow Vitara starter motor. Need a 1.3 oil pick up (modified) and sump. No doubt replace the small radiator with a larger donor unit. Have to modify the engine mounting brackets or weld in 1.3 ones, fit a body lift so the bonnet clears the donk. Theres probably other items needed that I've forgotten. If you go for the EFI engine this will add further mods, but no doubt worth it.
I have 30x9.5xR15 on mine and will be fitting 4.6 Nitro diff gears, but will never travel at 120klm's an hr.
