Hey all, names Pete.
I need some advice on which way I should go.

Here's the story, I'm new to the 4wd scene and have about 10K-12K budget.
The car will be mostly daily driving to work and back, but I'd like something capable of going for a weekend bash or beach run etc (nothing extremely serious).

I will have my daughter in the car quite regularly so safety and low breakdown rate is high in my list (although I understand things will happen from time to time when off-road).

I've been looking at either a GV or Jimny around the 2007-2010 area, but honestly I really don't know much about the pros and cons of both.

Any help and advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Pete,
I'm sure someone will come up the mechanical differences between the cars. But, try to get ride in both vehicles, it will quickly become clear what you will be comfortable with. Check a local club or some one here may be able to help with a quick spin around the bush/block.

Jimny is more offroad capable than GV, but GV is more spacious and has far better road manners.

Personally if i had to choose between the two i'd go SWB GV. If i wanted something more capable offroad i'd go back 2 more decades and get a Sierra.

I went through this same question myself and bought a jim. Both have their pro's and cons.

I would consider a v6 ugly duckling GV and lowering the budget a little. That way you can have a little left over for tyres/lift/recovery gear/camping gear etc

At this stage I'm leaning more towards the Jimny, but still undecided.
