Hi All

I am stripping down my 79 LJ80 so I can remove the body. I have no idea where to start and I appreciate it is a big ask :( :( but does anybody know of a step by step guide. I've seen the front part off and then the rear tub. I have plates welded in to the front foot wells which I assume need to be removed so I can access the mounting bolts. Trying to think ahead I'm also considering dustless blasting for the body panels. Any help would gratefully received.

I had a quick look today and it looks like the late LJ80 bib will fit an early model, or at least could be made to fit quite easily.

FWIW this is an LJ80-1

Image

This is an LJ80-2 which we normally call a Stockman.

Early LJ80s are much rarer than stockmans, especially in a trayback. I believe the LJ81-1 was only made for 11 months. You'd be very lucky to find an early LJ80 bib panel in good condition but you can buy stockman ones new. Personally I prefer the look of the early front end.

Take a look here for how to post pics. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=54448 I'm sure we'd all like to see a thread about your car. :)

I reckon early LJ80 front panels were quite prone to cracking. I'm in the same boat with an early LJ81, my front bib is bent on both sides, riddled with cracks and bogged up. Mine had a corolla radiator fitted and has broken 3 of the 4 radiator mounts off. I'm going to move to a chassis mounted radiator like a Sierra or Jimny has.

Columbia via ebay or import monster
A mint lj bonnet can go from $500 - 900 if you can actually locate one.
Front bibs are easier to find locally sub $100

You can buy them new for quite a substantial cost. I haven't seen anywhere that sells LJ80-1 bibs but there's a number of places that sell stockman ones.

http://www.extremebends.com/body-parts- ... 110_111_24

People spend years looking for decent bonnets. They really just never come up for sale, you have to look overseas and be prepared to front up some proper money. There's always talks of people making fibreglass ones, I don't know if that's come to fruition.

Really I'd contact some panel beaters and see what they can do with them.

I reckon you'd have to be insanely lucky to find an decent LJ80-1 front bib any time soon, I don't think I've ever seen one for sale in Aus. Probs best to look at Japan if you really need a replacement.
