Automatic 1.6 Vitara’s are hard to come by in WA especially with a G16B, most are asking more than I’m waiting to pay ie 4.5k so...a few weeks ago I purchased a 94 for door and drove it 800k. Surprisingly it rode really well...so much so I’m not sure weather to wreck it even though it was the reason for the purchase. If nothing turns up in the way of a Vitara with an auto by the time I’m ready to do the swap the manual will unfortunately be going in.

Yup, that's about right - it comes out a whole hole further back on the tunnel. The gearstick might need a bit of a tweak to fall nicely to hand as well. Rgs, Michael

Are there any issues with distributor clearance to the fire wall using a none coil pack version?

Steve are you saying that the Vitara is unsuitable as in “No” ? Because of the distributor

You asked if there were clearance problems with a distributor, the answer is no for the vitara engine. The distributor is on a right angle drive and clears the firewall.
The baleno/swift version pokes straight out the back of the head and won’t fit into a RWD car.

re: JT M16 transfer, you can bolt the JT2.0 transfer with hi/low and run an arduino etc controller to engage the shifter - very very common in greece where the only SWB is the 1.6 and "MOR POWAR"
the amount of envy they have of our 2.4 SWB's and the rare 3.2 SWB conversion is insane!

Looks like it.
I can’t recall which year the M engine replaced the G (2001?) but you need a manifold from a G13bb to avoid water pipe modifications to get the top hose from the back of the block.
However, do check my thread on G16b coolant flow issues in regard to whether you really want to use a Jimny inlet manifold with a G16b.

A bit more on a M engine swap..... Mentioned on 27th December in this thread, was an idea of finding a JT SWB Grand Vitara (ran an M16) & using the ecu / loom to run an M18 - more likely to be useful to Jimny owners having problems with the set from M13 to M18..... Possibility though, that M16 SWB NGV were all single range..... Manheim salvage are auctioning a 2006 car in Townsville - VIN is JSAJTA74V00201555 Putting that into ssg.asia parts catalogue & looking up transmission, then transfer gear, shows at item no 22, part no. 29211-66J00 "GEAR, LOW" - shifted by an electric motor, but that looks like low range to me?! Still would likely be a mountain of work to get the ECU / loom to work in a Jimny, but still leave the possibility open..... Rgs, Michael

Most M18 swapped cars seems to be running “ok”. Sure they may not be at 100% efficiency, but in general they make more power for similar fuel economy as the M13 on the M13 ecu. Would be worthwhile for a Sierra conversion though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

But... nobody knows. I’ve never seen any dyno or even A/F data of an M18 running whatever cobbled together solution people get to “work” - it’s like they’re afraid of finding out you can’t run a 60kw ecu on a 90kw motor.

That pic isnt even close to the jimny inlet manifold you need. The manifold you need has the thermostat housing at the front.

I have been in one with jimny Ecu, jimny auto running an A/F gauge and the numbers didn’t shock me at the time. However they were not so imprinted in my head that I could quote now, but I don’t remember thinking “oh damn that’s a worry”. Somehow the owner managed to make the auto live for 3 years with that setup and it’s still going strong. He even ran big tires ungeared for a while and a lot of off-road use. Mostly sand as the terrain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well it starts....in the whole of the cab I've only found one spot of rust directly behind the lower l/h plastic skirt though its not structural. Plan is sandblast the chassis and the underside of the cab, etch prime and epoxy undercoat those areas. The engine will be the G16b and G13b sump off a 1.3lt sierra fitted with a g13bb intake manifold from a jimny. Gearbox I'm yet to decide, Either the Vitara or the 5 Sp Sierra. Colour??? help me out.

Brenno in regards to the 1.3 engine mount I haven't been able to put my hand on any yet.
Question, is the1.3 5sp gearbox strong enough? I've been told that the vitara is better but requires more work and I understand what's involved however I'm good with the sierra 5sp if that will work just as good. most of the areas I go to are south coast WA where at times the sand is quite loose

When the world has run out of Sierra gearboxes which are all at least 21 years old now wreckers will all be full of manual Vitaras with trashed g16a’s.

I was after a bonnet from a 1.3 and found a few of them required a lot of effort to repair the dents twists and rust. I read somewhere that you weren't able to get new bonnet any more is this correct?
There was suppose to be 4 of my staff members that were going to give me a hand to lift the cab of after six pm today but only one turned up so we had to improvise by lifting it with a engine crane. I will put up some pics later but it work really well.
looking forward to stripping the chassis tomorrow, then a sand blast, followed by a prime with an epoxy undercoat.

It was ordered from India, I think the bonnets are $326 AUD/$236 US ish without freight and packaging
looks like there is a reasonable source of parts there.

Using the G16b from what I understand I need to weld on new engine mounts from a sierra 1.3 is that correct?
what method or measurement do you use to locate the 1.3 engine mounts? is it achieved by fitting the engine coupled to the gearbox and lining up the gearbox mount or is there a fixed measurement for it???
you will have to accept my ignorance here but did the NT come out with a 1.3ltr and a 5sp gearbox, if so can I use it? I need the engine mounts and a 5sp gearbox and I know a vehicle that is NT but I'm not sure if its a mod or it came out as manufactured

Had my m18 (with m18 injectors, intake manifold and TB with m13 exhaust) on my m13 ecu for a month now. -14% on long term fuel trim and achieving 14.5ish afr according to my AEM wide band. Open loop is where the problem is as its dumping in too much fuel and wide band shows an AFR of ~12-13. Looking to possible swap in some slightly smaller injectors shortly but ive just been able to read the fuel tables from the stock ECU so i might just be able to modify and reflash to fix the open loop afr.
