Good day Peeps,
Dylan here from South Africa.
I am looking to get some advice / Insights form you all.
I am very seriously looking into doing the m16a conversion for my jimny. I currently have a 2015 jimny with 50 000km on the clock. No issues what so over, I love the car to bits. I use it as a daily driver, I do some some hardcore trails, just because its fun and with the diff-lock its just so capable. However the primary use is for long distance over-landing trips throughout Southern Africa. And this is actually what has promted the want to upgrade. On the open road, fully loaded the jimny just lacks that little something. On flat ground at 4200rpm she cruises happily. However hit a hill at 2500m altitude or try to overtake one of the many coal trucks and she is simply under powered.
So the key reasons I want to do the upgrade is for more low end torque when in 4L 1st gear and for highway driving. I have a theory in my head that I will use less fuel on the open road cause I wont be driving between 4000 & 5000 rpm the whole time. (however this is just a hunch).
So my two main concerns are the following:
1: Reliability:
The motors I can source are all Import Motors with no service history and roughly 80 000 to 100 000km on them. Does it make sense to swap out a nice new reliable 50 000km motor with one that has done double the milage, and that we know zero of its service history?
> Is there anything I can do the the import motor before installing to help increase this? While you have it out the car, does it not make sense to replace bearings, rings etc?
2: Value for money?
My second biggest issue is that it is going to cost me about R25 000.00 ( 2500 AUD) to do the conversion. Will adding 300ml of cyclder really add that much power or even be noticeable? My m13a is a 2015 fairly modern motor, To replace with the m16a I need to get a pre 2012 model?
From what I can judge from Wikipeadia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_M_engine I made this small table: (not sure if its correct)

Its allot of work for roughtly 10kw power gain?
However torque wise we looking at a 25% increase.
Sorry allot of figures etc. I'm just trying to wrap my head around all of this, and last thing you want to do is mess up a realiable zook pay 35k doing so, and then end up paying more for fuel for not much more power...
