My MRS decided that a camper trailer is no good for family trips so she bought this monstrosity. Just done the wheel bearings and sorted out the brakes. Has bunks, shitter and shower, queen bed, kitchen, aircon, hot water and probably other stuff that I haven’t found yet.

Pulled all the previous owners crap out and found a water leak under the sink. Hopefully just an O ring or something easy to sort. The shower/ shitter thing looks cool. Wonder if I could multi task and crap while having a shower

Yeah it should be a good thing although I am not sure about the suspension. Some sort of strange mix of independent and leaf springs. For a 6+ meter family caravan it is pretty light as well so my car should still be able to do 130kph towing it

Thats weird. I would be getting some crack detection stuff and checking those welds on the a arm on the chassis. It sort of defies the way suspension should work. It may be for getting the caravan level easier, rather than better suspension movement on road.
Sometimes people try and make the wheel rounder and it doesn't work out so well.

It's a Coromal thing..... I can understand the therory behind them, but in my view the leaves kind of counter the whole indepenant stuff. But I recon it's probably going to be better then 99% of the crappy independent coil setups out there in the market these days. Apparantly that Coromal suspension goes ok with lots of vans doing big kms in their lifes, but that would be based on the grey nomad snail speed driving test. Will be interesting to see if it's up for the Shep test..... Even with the funny suspension, it's still a big fucking ugly thing....

Did 700km today and it went well. Tows great at 110kph, van is much lighter then I expected 1750kg with about 140L water in the tanks. Economy was ok at 16.8L / 100 @ 110kph but I put zero effort into setting it up or checking tyre pressures etc

Coromal have always built nice quality stuff.
They've run that style of suspension for decades now with no real dramas. Pretty sure they've got it patented.

The suspension design is more about axle location, rather than claiming anything special about it's independantness. Meant to be less prone to sway. Does seem to go ok. Rgs, Michael

Had a pretty awesome week cruising around Hart’s range about 130km SE of Alice springs, van went real well however a few of the interior lights have stopped working but hopefully it’s just a fuse or something.
For a on road van it handled the crap roads real well with no dust getting into the van and cruising at 100kph we averaged 12.1L/100. Putting some effort into setting the van up properly really payed off.
Even overtaking roadtrains at 130kph the van behaved perfectly
As a bonus the kids found a metric crapload of garnets and zircons.
