Hi guys I’m looking at buying a old Suzuki jimmy to use for a coil conversion. And I was wondering if I could use the engine in my lj as well. If so what sort of stuff is involved (yes I know I will have to modify the chassis and tunnel) and would I be able to runthe transfer to and would it open up a option for different transfer gears

Thanks for any help

Cheers Tom

The two chassis are nothing alike. You will have to move everything on the jimny diffs to match up to the total LJ chassis width, And modifying each chassis mount to fit the smaller LJ RHS/box chassis.

Transfercase does open up gearing solutions but sierra leafy with a 4wd switch cases are the go.

Have you seen the LJimny on here. Might be an option.

Anything is possible but a lot of work either way.

The Jimny engine is a reasonable fit in the engine bay, but that's why Sierra diffs got offset - to allow a front diff to sit under / along side bigger engines than LJs had.
More gearing options with leaf sprung Sierra T/case than Jimny. Depends on the age of the Jimny, but I suspect, when you say Old Jimny, you are talking about 1998-2002 G engined cars. Later cars did away with t/case shift lever, which are NQR for this sort of use.
Sounds like you might end up with a older, rustier LJ body on Jimny running gear - might just go out & get a Jimny in the 1st place??
Yes, a lot of work either way, but some times there is almost no limit to the level of crazy we can talk ourselves into.
As long as you are having fun......
