Looks like a bought one! Impressive work!
Can you fit in with the tailgate closed? Even with it layed out like that I wouldnt have thought there'd be enough room?
Better than my effort which consisted of a foam gym mate rolled out in the back, pillow resting on the rear bumper and my feet out the passenger window (still had a surprisingly good sleep though - beer helped)

I'm 180cm and to fully stretch out with the tailgate closed I have to lay diagonally.
Storage space is still quite good for overnighters. The space under is quite large and I also have the rear seat foot space. Esky and food can go between the bed base and mattress but would need to be outside while I sleep

could you chuck the matress in a water proof bag and throw it up on the roof racks? Might give you a little more internal space.

That is really Cool !
This is a perfect example of a Zook owners ingenuity, cant afford it, make it yourself... he he... you could manufacture and sell that, as a Jim accessory...
This has made me think about sleeping in my LWB GV... will have to go and lay all the seats flat, and see if i can just throw a mattress in, or need to make something up... hmmm... idea's, idea's... ha ha...

You wont fit in the back of a Gv as the bottom of the back seat folds up against the back or the front seats. Would be ok if you were only 4ft tall.

even vacuum bag it. wont get all the air out but you can use body weight to get most of it out.

Yep i noticed that, but if i was gonna sleep in it, i would take out the bottom of the back seat, then lay the front seats as flat as possible, it wont be totally flat, but that would be ok...

I like yours better but http://item.rakuten.co.jp/apio/jm-3007/
guess the tiny japs will fit?
ever lined up the front and rear seats to make a bed out of that?
you have to take the headrest off the front seat lay it right back and then sit in the back seat and lay your legs over the front seat.
works quite well

There is some cool stuff on the page, shame we dont get any of it here...
When i had my old 1L NT Sierra back in the 80's, the first model Sierra in Aus, it had those crappy half back seats, i pushed the front seats forward, and thru a beanbag in leaning up against the back of the seat, and slept in it that way, still had to have my legs bent, wouldnt recommend that, but yeah, it worked, he he...
I was just looking thru my GV Owners manual, on another matter, and it shows how to arrange the seats to get a fairly long area for loading, but it would work just as well for a flat sleeping surface, you take the headrest of the front seat, push it all the way forward, and then recline the back till its almost level, and it has a snug fit with the lowered back seat, throw in a mattress, and it would be a good, non cramped area to sleep in !

Wow this is a really sweet setup. Im setting my vit up to sleep inside as well but I need to wait till I get a fridge as it needs to be incorporated into the design. Your rig is way better than the hinged piece of ply I was gonna use.
Nice work.

I've slept in my Jimny with just the seats all arranged flat, was not comfortable due to the seat side bolsters. Was a great set-up for the drive-in though. When we still had drive-ins.
That Japanese version looks cumbersum and my early version years ago used a support that sat on the seat like that.

Did you take out the rear seats to put in your shelves or bed unit? Or did you just fold them down and put the unit over the top?
Debating whether to completely remove rear seats or not.

only takes half an hour, and ya get more space. take em out, see if ya like it if not put em back in. or leave em out and if ya think there is any chance you will need to give someone a lift put em back in before your trip or where ever you are going to.

I thought maybe i could take out the seat base (the bit that sits vertical when they are folded up) and then all i had to do was cover the back rest when it is folded. That way it is simply 2 screws to put the ass-rest back on.
The only thing is the amount of room i lose by leaving the backrests.
Also im having trouble removing the mechanism that reclines the rest.

Do it like this. Best of both worlds. Or buy mine?

I figured out how to do it. I just stopped being a pussy and pulled the plastic cover off. I was worried earlier (
and every time i touch my car) that i would pull it a bit hard and break it.
