Missed this thread from the start, interesting read. I'm an advocate of just using the receiver pin method. The HR tow bar is attached to the chassis at a few points and if you're using a strap of the correct rating for Jimny it'll fit in the 40mm hole. The bigger issue is recovery from the front.

Yeah I haven't used it a good point is just the snatchy with the pin through it I got an xrox up the front now with recovery points and a 9500lb winch in the bar to skull drag it out from the front. Thinking about getting some thing machined up from the back to but a shackle through for winch recoveries still use the pin for snatching though because of the unlikely event of the pin shearing. A decent rated soft sling choke/hitch would suffice if you really needed a shackle

I did a calculation on the tow bar pin in a thread about a year or more ago. Because it is in "double sheer" and it is quite a big diameter it will not break with the force that any strap can apply.

Just regarding the towing from the front, I recently sent an inquiry to APIO Japan regarding the 9mm steel plate they had available that can be mounted on the front of the Jimny... they wanted $158 including delivery, instant thought is it seems very expensive, with half that cost being shipping, but i guess It could be worth its weight in gold :P

I was looking at those yesterday, wouldn't be hard to make them. Was $158 for a pair or just one?

1 x $20 rated tow hook, 2 x high tensile bolts (120mm long), a drill and no fab skills needed.......

$160 is a lot of money to reduce your approach angle, those bolt on plates hang soooo low.

I bought two of these hooks years ago, sitting in a box somewhere. Maybe I should dig them out.
I like the bolt right through, did you add crush tubes?
