It will be wicked to bolt on the portals for the weekend and then during the week take them off and let the missus drive to car to work. Love It!!!!

Will be none of that. Once they are on....they are on. A different off the shelf CV is needed for the portals and the rear will be a full float based axle with discs, once it is changed it is changed.

The CNC....

It allows me to sit on my arse and talk shit to Kenn more often while getting some actual work done

Tape center is a bit missleading, it will be run via a pc with Solidworks/Solidcam.

With the ratio in the portal I take it the diffs will be diff ratios.

Will the standard mounting arms handle the extra torque generated by the portal, looks to be secured with only 4 bolts

the shear pressure required to snap those 4 bolts would be huge..

4 bolts are all that hold the rear wheels on... The 4 bolts hold on the rear drum assembly on a GV that the wheels are bolted onto... so I can't see it being any different.

True but the are axially aligned. Portals are obviously axially offset thereby generating different torsional forces, especially in 4wd terrain where the front tyres have a lot of horizontal impact forces from hitting rocks and bumps and also the forces required to get the front to drive vertically up obstacles.

Bit more to this then maybe you know. I'm sure Joe has considered these points but hey you feel free to hassle him in a tech thread

Feel free to correct me but a 10mm bolt ,I think it was 8.8 grade has a shear pressure of 680MPa (92,000 psi) so I'd say a 12mm bolt???( not sure what size holds all the zook shit together) would be adequate to hold all the portals in position.

Problem is in an axial alignment the load is even spread as the load is applied in the middle of the bolt arrangement in this offset the load MAY pivot about one bolt, I know the shaft is there but it's not the typical force application, hence if the force pivots on one bolt the load applied to the others is amplified. Now I haven't done any work on this, I am just posing the question.

When I get the machining centre running and can make a mock-up I will be adding a bottom brace. Won't know anything intil I can get one bolted to a front end. Rear diff brace is easy.
