I though I would post up some step by step pic of a pair of heads I am making.
They might be of interest to the 2 stroke suzuki owners
Basic setup in the mill to drill the hold down bolt holes and centre hole for insert
Boring centre hole
Flycutting top face

There are going to be 2 of them. They are prototypes for a formula 500 speedway engine.
For my next trick I am going to carve out a crankcase, cylinder and more heads for a drag bike, but that won't be until next year. I am still undecided on the configuration I want.

Are you making the entire eng? I have had the privilege of seeing a crank made from billet, only because I told him he couldn't do it

Most of it.
Some parts just aren't worth the hassle to make and it's cheaper/easier to buy them.
Pistons, rings, conrods, valve springs and any bearings will be purchased. I will probably buy the valves as blanks and turn them up to my specs. The crankcase, cylinder and the head(s) I will carve from billet.
The crank isn't a problem. I will rough it out, send it for heat treating and have someone finish grind it for me unless I get my hands on a crank grinder before then.
I want to go with 4 cylinder as they seem to be the fastest on the track at the moment. All the V twins are struggling to run the numbers.

Yep they are from hairy forbes, the brand is vandurit. Never tried these ones before and was all I could get on short notice. I will let you know if they are garbage.
All my lathe tooling is decent kennametal gear, just some of the mill tooling is chinese.
I have a couple of chinese made endmills with inserts in them and they are brilliant on the manual mill. I don't think they would hold up on a machining centre though.

Good to know you're getting some decent results with Chinese stuff, as that's probably all I can afford!

The inserts I just got were pretty much the same price as the quality ones I know work well

Work has come to a halt on the heads. I want to turn the inserts up next but I need my big lathe back together.
I will post up some pics of the bits I have been making to rebuild the electronic side of it tomorrow.
I can also use the lathe to make more rocket engine casings and my dirty great big hybrid rocket engine
