Post subject:  some square drive shafts
fabbed up som drive shafts nothing super special but it solved the problem we had with the driveshafts not having enough extension.

hey mate if you find that they end up shitting themselves, go to the wreckers and find a subaru L series dual range touring wagon and pilfer the rear driveshaft out of them. They are the same diameter as a sierra. You can easily machine the splined shaft and Uni yoke off your old shaft and reweld them back onto the suby one which you can cut down to suit whatever length you need. it's probably even long enough to do a LWB sierra.

This is what I did with mine...120kw 4age and not a prob so far.

You can buy new drive shaft tube, I think ripco even sell it..

ah k thanks mate ill keep it in mind. i hope they dont shit emselves coz they are 4 mm wall thikness and square so bucket loads stronger than the standard shafts and there is not much slop in them so if they do break something else will likely have broken first. did a couple og second moment of area calcs on them and they well outrank the sierra round ones.

Seemless Rhs. Yes. You can buy

Telescopic Rhs. Yes. You can buy.



This is only going to be a crawl rig yes? Box will be fine, but any high speed work, mega vibes!

Mate has a box front with lots of slop, works fine in 4wd. (Heavy Lux,crusierdiffs,35's)

they look good matty! Yeah i reckon something else will break before these do :lol:

I guess if you land them on rocks it might be interesting, but i've seen a few stocker round ones twist,break, corkscrew on rocks, so much of a muchness eh.

PS. how's the rest of the build going? :D

yeah build is going well got the body all but painted and half doors made engine is nearly running.

the rhs isnt seamless in this case. i ran a couple beads of weld up two sides of the iner tube and ground it back so no slop at all in these ones. and as its a crawler rig i cant see vibrations being a huge problem for us.

There's guys over here using square shafts, V6 Commodore motors and around 120:1 gearing without any dramas, have never seen one bend and only ever seen one twist :wink:

Zoltan on outers had his front square shaft built in the bush by eye, by a mate of mine. He got up to 150 odd kph at the West Oz Challenge without any real bad vibrations. Built properly they work well.

got a mate who runs a front shaft the same in his comp lux never had any trouble he won't put one in the rear because apparently if you belly out on a rock or log when the shaft spins it walks it's way along what ever your stuck on which could be worse than being hung up to start with if you were on an off camber hill for example . but give it a go and see what happens . top work
