I made a engine mount. This will hopefully work better than the standard ones, as even if the bushes flog out it still holds the engine in place.

I took the old broken mount off and the engine fell over, i didn't realise that the other engine mount was broken as well :roll: I just replaced that one with a standard one, that side is less likely to break, but may make similar mount on that side one day.

I did the first bracket welds with a nice mig, and the finishing welds with my gasless mig, huge difference in appearence so i took the photo from further away :lol:

This uses the standard Sierra leaf spring bushes

I would brace the top of that tube, cause vibration will hurt the welds on the plate pretty quick

Bruce can make bushes that fit inside normal 32nb medium pipe if you make more and aaron has a jig to make a similar gearbox mount :wink:

heaps better idea though and makes it easier to get an engine in and out

can you make me some :P

Nice, I made a completely different design one for my GTi engine which was blowing the passenger side about every second week. There's a thread on 4wd action on it, used sikaflex windscreen sealant stuff.

Hey Steve, have you run these yet? I have to make some new engine mounts to drop the engine down about 50mm and originally I looked at making a mount that will use the standard mounts but was thinking of doing something similar to what you've done. Was worried about vibration though so just wanted to know how you got on.

Craig made one for his Sierra, he is running a super duper toyota engine for fast car stuff so it takes a beating.

I have seen these types of mount a fair bit, so i think they're pretty common , so must be ok, hopefully.

Mine runs on the factory mount brackets and cops 7500rpm from a gti block day in day out without missing a beat now for about 8 months.

Stock brackets are fine, it's the stock mounts that are pissweak.

just running the car this arvo, i think there's a little more vibration through the car because the mount is a bit firmer.

i put my hand of the mount, the engine doesn't move much, so there's not a lot of movement really, it's just the slight vibration through the whole car.

It probably doesn't help having a broken fan blade either.

i put another fan on, so almost done.

I think i'll be making another engine mount now, to get the engine a little lower :oops: ... it's probably ok for a 1.3, but the 1.6 sits a bit higher

Post up pics and results when you lower it. Ive been contemplating dodge 318 mounts but cant find how much they lower the engine, these look perfect but Id hope they dont vibrate too much Id like to d/d it.

Maybe you dont have to? Drop the engine so it clears better, then measure the distance between your sump & the housing. Compare that to your bumpstop clearance. If it will hit, drop your bumpstops a little. Remember to add some 'fudge' room, coz the bumpstops flatten out quite a but when you bottom out!

Hey Stevie Baby :lol: what bushes did you use for those engine mounts? I was sure that the stock zook spring bushes fit inside a 32NB tube, but I tried it over the weekend and they r too small! 25NB maybe? Or did you use different bushes? I got some from the non shcakle end but they are way too big I think.

I asked him the other day and he didnt know, though I think it might be the big bushes in 40nb

I had a length of pipe at some stage that one of those bushes fit into. Might have to do some digging...

OK, so I got around to doing some digging and I figured out what size pipe I must have had, 25NB light wall stuff. The light wall is 1.6mm, and the OD is 33.7. That makes the ID 30.5. I measured up some bushes i have and they are all around the 30mm mark or just over.

Now I just have to find some that won't cost me limb :roll:

EDIT: Light wall is not 1.6, the one I was thinking abou it extra light wall which is 2mm, and that's what I must have had. So the ID would have been 29.7, which i'm sure you'd still be able to squeeze a 30mm rubber bush into.

Found a metal place at Capalaba that has the 25nb extra light wall in stock, and it was under $5 for a meter length. Bad news is that the fit is pretty tight, it's obviously not the same stuff I had before. It's close enough to be able to make it fit though, so i'm going to use it anyway. I'm not sure if I mentioned it but this is to suite standard Sierra shackle bushes (30mm OD, 12mm ID)

Got the plates that will bolt to the block cut today. The driver's side one got the holes drilled too. Almost done drilling the holes in the passenger side one too, but it's a little trickier because the plate isn't all on the same plane.

yeap, i just tacked another bit of plate on as a spacer for that difference on the passenger side.

i still haven't measured the tube, i just grabbed it out of the scrap box.
