before my new years trip to moreton i made up a elcheapo snorkel aswell as sealing all my electrics with industrial grade silicone. With this setup i was smashing bonnet depth puddles without stalling. |

if anyone in brisbane wants to setup a snorkel like this (cheap and nasty) im willing to give ya a hand. Ill also help you seal your electrics. Stock i couldnt go through a puddle 2 feet deep without stalling now it is unstoppable just about. |

about $60 bucks i think prolly cheaper. I still have a tube of silicone left. So thats at least 20 cheaper. I was recovering landcruisers with snorkels. So my cheap setup works. |

Just be careful what silicone you use. For sealing air and water it may be fine, but ive removed a whole stinking tube of clear roofing silicone from peoples trucks when they were trying to seal oil leaks. The old philosophy that more is better doesn't work. |

yeh what ive got it used for is sweet, I should mention its more the way how i sealed it all up. And where to put the stuff. I cant take any more photos cause my new digital camera just carked it. I just took the airfilter box cap off and checked for water and there is zilch. |

you should use sikaflex flexible sealant rather then silicon. |

someone tried to use sika to stop water getting in around the roof of my zook (before I got it) and I got rid of it all and used closed cell foam instead. Which is why it hasn't rained bugger all this week, coz I want to test it (but don't want to hose the thing for an hour...) |

here some more pics (of snorkle and a couple of other shots) as promised, excuse my filthy engine bay. Atm i dont care what it looks like cause soon the old 1.3 will be goneskies, making room for hopefully a healthy 1.6. |

certainly is, works an absolute treat. When i do my 1.6 conversion ill be pulling the snorkel off in one piece and getting it made up in stainless |

What type of paint did you use for the snorkel? Because normal spray can paint doesn't stick too well to pvc and I have tried plastic paint but that is just as weak and will scratch up easily. |

well i used elcheapo bunnings paint. I roughed up the pvc before hand which is the trick i think. Either way u will get scratches its on a 4wd. But give the pvc a good rough up |

why did you dogleg it into the gaurd? PVC worked a treat on another (now ex) sierra I know, only thing that irritated me was the 45* bend didn't quite run smooth up the windscreen. But i'm fussy like that |

cause at the time it was about 6pm on a saturday night, i had limited materials, so i just whacked it together for my trip. It worked unbelievably well. It will be coming off and getting replaced with a stainless one me thinks anyway. |
