I know it may of sounded pretty stupid and a retarded idea to make a wooden dash... and believe me it was but saying that, I did want something alittle different to every man and his dog Here is the build, a few pics of many many hrs of gluing/clamping/sanding starting off... I tried to heat bend some material for the dash.. I will post pics but i think they are on the oldies computer.. this is method 1 wet the timber with hot water, bend and clamp.. after drying for a couple the water evaporates and should remain the clamped shape |

I couldn't get the full 1ltr dash in one go.. and it cracked after bending it about 180 degress So back to the drawing board.. I started again with the idea of a solid dash with complicated joins and bracing I machined down some lengths of timber to 4.5mm, and a few lengths about 15x15mm.. glued the basic frame together and cut the cluster in |

Sorry about lack of pics.. Most of the build are on another computer.. From this i glued all the extra supports and new piece of material along the front about 7mm.. soo i could give the dash a round front and follow the curve of the plastic end caps.. |

I then had to fit the cluster into the wooden dash so i copied the old tin dash.. cut the hole alittle bigger and glue a lip on the inside to it wood fit in snug.. I also used the old bracket underneath the cluster to screw it to the bottom |

Hi Verm1n, Nice job. Stained and varnished timber always looks good. To make it easier to bend the timber or ply or whatever you use, try cutting grooves along the length of the timber etc about a cm apart. You will only need to groove it about 1/3 to 1/2 the thickness and then soak well, say overnight. The timber should be supple enough then to bend without cracking. Just a friendly suggestion, not a criticism. Regards John T. |

I cut in a slot for the navman so i can feed it in from behind and use it fit the dash to the zook and test the cluster in.. pulled it back off again and stained/varnished it ready to go back in |

nice job looks flash some 4.5 or 6mm bending ply would of handled the radius you were trying to achieve with out the need of saw curfing ( grooving ) the timber |

Looks good mate, now you can come over here and recreate my vent surrounds in wood from my Pathfinder. They aren't made as well as Suzuki's. |
