Hey guys n girls,

Just putting the finishing touches on my dual battery tray for my Jimny. Looks pretty good so far just need to attach it to the tray i bought. shall post pics shortly.

total cost so far is about 25 dollars so a touch better than the pirahna 189 dollar price tag.

X2... Was starting to think about doing a dual battery install... Got the cable and solenoid sitting in the garage... So should pull my finger out.


Are you upgrading the original battery aswell??

nearly finished just waiting for some paint to dry and ill take some pics.

i had to move the washer bottle forward that was easy enough, 1 bit of flat bar, 4 holes and a m6 tap to thread 2 of the holes.

got an idea, i was using a supercheap battery clamp, which has a fairly bulky plastic thing going over the top of the battery with some wingnuts, ill try making a low profile version with some leftover flatbar tomorrow and loose the wingnuts to see if that helps.

im just hoping the battery terminals arent too high either.

I had to use the flat bar idea with flat, spring washers and hex nuts to stop from hitting. Also i put the negative of the battery to the front of the car just incase it was to hit. I ended up with about 10mm clearance though.

morning everyone,
got it to fit with the bonnet down, use nylock nuts on the clamps. bloody 1/4 UNC thread though for something a bit random.

now to wire it up, very happy with it so far.

PS the non-slip rubber matting is only a temp measure till if find something more suitable.

All in all, approx 30 dollars worth of material. probably spent about 50 all up though as i used a bit more flat bar, had to buy nuts etc etc.

edit
note the spiwrap on the aircon hose as it touches battery.

also, when moving the washer bottle forward, i had to bulk out the forward mount with about 6 washers to allow the bonnet holder upper thingy to go back in its home.

hmmm, im trying to mount the redarc solenoid somewhere now, the only place i can see that it will fit is right above the exhaust manifold.... pass.

any other suggestions?

struggling to find an appropriate mounting point near the start battery though mate.

found a good spot, making a bracket now. next to some crazy canister thinggy.

The Carbon canister thinggy??

A couple of more possibles??

make a bracket below the vin plate?

or off the radiator overflow bracket?

ours is bolted to the little bracket just to the left of vin plate
also we managed to get an n70z under the bonnet of ours, just had to mould the guard and move a couple things, works a dream tho

Make sure you use them screws with the rubber washer on em so the electrolyte doesn't leak out :lol:

all done now, i didnt want it on the aux side of the engine bay at all due to heat. as well as the fact redarc reccomend as close as possible to starter battery.

im guessing its the carbon canister has about 5 hoses coming out of it.

Nice work!

Can I suggest if you plan to run accessories off that battery that are earthed to the body that you move the earth to the body, or better yet run an earth off the body as well

One of these might be a good thing on your start battery too

yep its heatshrink alright. and yeah found a bracket lol. got it the other day from suzuki locally. ONLY 30 BUCKS!!! i couldnt believe my ears.

wreckers were quoting me 40-50 bucks plus postage so yeah, if you got a rusty one, go straight to the dealer.


as for the earth, i intend on going straight to the chassis soon. but i had limited time today and just wanted to get the job done. the length of cable you see there is the exact length i cut off from the dodgy winch cabling the other day, so it was a no brainer just bunging it on the engine there for now.

Looks good bro good job. Just a few mods required. Yeah bolt that negative to the body somewhere if you can find a threaded hole not being used, you were going to do that anyway I think. Also that projecta terminal looks pretty good but only takes up to 20mm2 cable so maybe we can find something similar to take that 25mm2 stuff it does look a bit shit at the moment but not sure about alternatives. Its fuctional though so who gives a toss i spose. Are you gunna wire in a manual override and led indicator in the dash? Pull out a switch cover and mount both led and switch in one of those. Next up, fuse box for auxillary battery? Lookin sweet though, nice touch with the heatshrink over the bracket.

i rekon even that projecta terminal would be too high up. I barely have a mm to spare, if i rotate the negative terminal, it will hit a part of the bonnet its that close.
really need a low profile terminal, but its working anyway at the moment.
