Just wondered if any of you guys down under have made your own snorkel. If so pictures and description would be very much appreciated.

I've made one from 3" industrial vacuum truck suction hose. It's bloody strong and takes hundreds of kg's to fully collapse, I can hardly budge it by jumping on it. Beauty of it is that being not completely rigid it doesn't damage panels badly when you lean it against a tree and springs right back afterwards without any damage. It's not the prettiest snorkel but I rate form over function and it cost me nothing. Search my build thread under "the scrub tick" if you want pics.

What diameter pipe did you use. What did you fit on top?

I think it was either 65 or 50mn. I just used a 45" bend on top facing backwards

I've never been in such a ridiculous spot that will cause harm to me or my vehicle. Mind you the snorkel never caught a tree/bank anyway. And if it did you would be more worried about the front guard/panelwork! Also If it did happen I'd much rather a $20 snorkel go pop then a overpriced plastic one!

I had a local exhaust shop fabricate this 2 1/2 inch stainless steel snorkle. I then had it polished. It's fixed to the "A" pillar with the use of nutserts.

This is the snorkel un-polished

I'm a PVC man also. I had a snorkel made up outta exhust pipe and the first trip out with it, reversing against a tree and ripped the snorkel out thru the windscreen fucking the frame and glass and the snorkel.

This is after it has been straightened.
I then went pvc. 65mm from plumbing shop. 1 90 degree bend out of the guard and 2 45 degree bends. Total cost about $50. I have it screwed to the windscreen thru a cable tie so if it desides to go bang again, no windscreen damage.

I also didn't glue the fittings together, instead used a bit of silly coon to seal the outside of the joins up so if I do bust the pipe, ya only need to get new pipe, not joins aswell.

Well, finally got a chance to finish off my snorkel today. The paint left a little to be desired but the rest looked ok for a throw together job.
