So I had a bit of left over plywood and carpet from another project. There is a bit of wasted space inside the tailgate of a Sierra as there is usually just a flat panel over the inside leaving 3 big voids behind. I though I would make up a panel that could be used for a bit of storage. ![]() The holes are the perfect size to store a few straps. I need to get a bit of elastic or something to go across the front to keep it all in place. The webbing down the middle gives something for elastic to run under and that was also leftover. It also allows me to put a flip down table over the top as the straps sit flush with the panel I made. I might see if I can find some black screws also. |

It's pretty handy i reckon. It's nice to have all the recovery gear easy to access a 9m strap is a tight fit and will stay in there without assistance. Next job for me is to rebuild the carby. |

Bet the already overloaded rear door hinges will love that extra weight.... But nice execution |

Nice idea,I'm doing a build know so awesome idea I'd be worried about weight if any of those things weighed anything much it could cause probs, wat about dings though did u pad the inside of the tailgate |

I wasn't too worried about weight. A couple of straps dot weigh a whole lots and it's not like I have a big tyre hanging off the tailgate either at the moment. I didn't do anything about padding the inside it could quite easily be done but I figured a couple of straps wasn't going to dent it might just get a few scratches. I'll see how it goes for now. |

Where do you put the straps once you've used them? 9 times out of 10, they'll be muddy once you have finished a recovery. Steve |

That's true. I haven't really had a chance to test it out yet. It would be fairly easy to clean out though, couple of tec screws and it's off. Could also be used for a range of camping gear as well. It just seemed a waste of space with the void in the tail gate so if lightweight stuff can be stored in it so much the better. I don't run a full size spare so hopefully the hinges will be ok. |

It is a good idea to store straps and i will use this trick to store my straps. i think it is a right think to use waste space and we can other lightweight stuff to store. Can you helps me to get more idea for store other lightweight goods. |

Great fit out, don't worry about the weight the hinge can handle it. I made a basic version with thin sheet on a piano hinge at the bottom and three individual doors. When sprayed the same colour as the car the crooks can't see it even with the roof off. Just put the heaviest stuff near the hinge and all is good. oh... dirty snatch straps hang off the spare wheel, every one knows that... |
