Hey all as some of you might of seen i asked this morning how i could mud flaps on my sierra.... A few chimed up with an awsome idea i hadnt thought of.....so after going threw the shed and off to bunnings i had all i needed(All i needed was rubber matting from bunnings!) 32mm pipe slides in there spot on...and then just some flat i had in the shed also! ![]() for my off set i cut 2 bits of pipe at 350mm(10mm to go into the pipe) and 4 bits of flat at250mm! so the 32mm tube is sliding into here ![]() so sfter cutting the steal i welded the flat onto the tube ![]() while waiting for the paint to dry i cut out the rubber matting...mine are 250mmx500mm ![]() ![]() just leting the paint dry and i will finish em off and take a photo |

missed a 0!haha just wacked em on.....man they look gay! i made em longer for when i fit the 34's.....lucky i made em detachable!haha ah well anything to keep mr plod happy! so i sat the rubber on the welded mount and then put the other flat bit of 250 on top and put 3 small roofing screws threw! ![]() then just slid em and again used a roofing screw to hold in place!( i will be butting a bolt threw with an r clip so all you have to do is pull the clip and take the bolt out! but i cant be bothered goin the down street!) ![]() so there ys go! took about halfa all up i reckon! |

That rubber will do sweet FA on the highway. Its nowhere near rigid enough to stay down....it will be flapping up around the rear bar, so you are likely to get fined just the same as having no flaps. May I suggest you attach a piece of 5mm flatbar to the bottom edge as a weight to help keep it down while at speed? You may need a few goes at it to get the weight right. Nice job otherwise. |

I've tried the bar at the bottom thing, it still flaps around, and makes bigger dents on body work than rubber alone can. I'd be trimming off as much of the bar sticking out as possible, or it will jam into a bank or rut, and be an anchor. PS. Love the simple design and quick release

Ignore the sticking out comments, because you will be removing them off road |

Needs something to stop them turning back in with the wheel if reversing too. |

What about just mounting regular mudflaps to such a mounting system? Or even gluing a heap of the stuff you've used together to make it more rigid. |

i use the factory mudflap mounts and supercheap mud flaps... i've stopped screwing/bolting them in place and now use thin cable ties instead... this means that if i reverse over a flap to cable tie snaps before i tear through the mudflap... and its pretty audible when you lose one so can just pick it up and tie it back on later =) So, the only thing i'd change in your design is cable tieing the rubber on to the bar to ensure that if they are on and you back over them, the cable ties snap first. |
