Made a sliding extendable bed base, pics will explain all..

Made up the these to stabilise the front section, the door handle can take a surprising amount of weight

All packed up for a couple of nights camping, still heaps of room behind the seats and i can still put stuff on top of the bed if i need to.
The mattress dimensions are 1880 by 1220, i'm pretty tall and its comfortably long, there is extra foot room on the passenger side on top of the glove box too.

Awesome work!

I am going to do something very similar in my LWB Sierra when it is finished and you have given me some very good idea's. I really like how it slides out like that, I was going to make mine folding but that is a better idea.

My aim is to fit a full size double mattress.

Full size double mattress would be cool, are the sierras wider?

Well you would not think so aye :? but I am sure I have measured it and it will fit. Maybe less plastic trim etc, Sierra's are squarer?

Currently have a full sized double mattress minus the notches for the rear wheel arches in my old Nissan pulsar but it sucks off road  .

stays where it is, why would i need to move it. it folds up into the back area and you can drive normally, then unfold it when you set up camp

That is an awesome idea!! Me and my house mate were just talking the other week about ideas to make my swb Vit into a sleeper and were coming up with all sorts of crazy ideas of remounting the rear doors to make it a swing down and other crazy shit. Love what you have done and I reckon I will be stealing your idea (all credit your way of course) and doing this before next dry season.
