When I bought my GV a couple of years ago one of the first things I made for it was a demountable bike rack that hangs from the spare tyre holder.
I hate any bike rack system that do not allow you to open the rear door and also obscures the number plate. This is what I came up with:

50x50x5 square "T" welded inside the holder. The socket lines up with a spoke hole in the wheel.

The rack is made from a "L" of 40x40x4 with thick 1" tube forks and a brace. The forks appear offset to the bracket to line the forks with the centre of the car. The forks have 1" rubber hose for a bulletproof stiff padding.

the lock is a 40x40 square plate with a long pin along the bottom of the "L" that is stiff to twist. When twisted 45degrees the rack cant move back out of the socket.

I have made a few of these for family, (GV3, Prado, camper trailer)

That is awesome and it just so happens that my wife has been bugging me for a bike carrier for her GV for quite some time now, not to sure if she will let me near her car with a welder though 8O

Cool, I get to be the first to say something about having too much weight on the rear door. Armsup

I don't see it being a problem though.

There are bike carriers that bolt to the tow bar and do fold down, although removing the R clip can be tricky... If you don't have a thumb.

Yes, obviously I unbolted the carrier before welding anything to it.

Most towbar mounted bike carriers won't work with rear mounted spare tyres anyway.

There is surprisingly little flex in the rear door with the rack and two bikes. The whole system is very solid.

The one I got is the slide in hitch style can hold 4 bikes but only ever use it for two and it misses the spare tyre and folds down.
You can make or buy extensions like this too.
