We bought these for Zuk #2 this week and they are coming up quite nicely. They were in terrible condition with an awful paint job and flaking clear underneath. They were only $80 with caps etc. Should be a lot lighter than the stock steel wheels that are on there at the moment. Two are now done and will finish off the other 2 on the weekend..

I bet they're not as much lighter as you think.

A stock Suzuki XL7 rim was 4kg lighter than a generic 15x7 dynamic sunraysia style wheel which are a much thicker gauge steel than a stock rim. I'd say there's only a kilo or 2 different between a stock wheel and an alloy.

From my anecdotal experience, stock Sierra steel rims are pretty light and cast 15x7 alloys are pretty heavy. My walker Evans 15X8.5 beadlocks are insanely heavy.

I couldn't find the weight of a Sierra rim but apparently a stock jimney wheels is around 9kg but I suspect they are not as wide as these which are 7" and these only weigh 6kg .. I suspect 7" sunrasias weigh a lot more than stock wheels so I am more than happy with the unsprung weight gain of these alloys..and they wont rust..and my son, who's Sierra they are going on, loves them and I think he has done a great resto on them.

My 15x7 globes are 0.9kg lighter than a 15x5.5 jimny steely which, from memory was 8.75kg. The Globes are MUCH sturdier, I think they have an 1100kg (each) load rating. The Jimny wheel is bent from a tyre lever.

I'd expect the Walker Evans to be heavy, that's a competition spec beadlock which goes on cars can't afford to have a failure.

Nice looking rim, good job, i wouldn't worry about the weight so much they will set the zook off.

Cheers mate ! Thanks for the positive feedback. I think they will suit it. We had the alloys from Zook 1 on it last week and it does look good with that color wheel..They are almost 6 KG lighter than same size in steel so that is a good weight reduction in USW..

For what it's worth, take a look at the tyres you're planning to run as well. My 31" Kumho KL71 are 8kg lighter PER TYRE than my General Grabber SRLs!

Kumho KL71 are 30kg EA
Grabber SRL are 38kg EA

I didn't realise this was Facebook where only positive feedback was welcome.

The best thing about this forum is that it can help to put facts and data and experience around many of the myths and assumptions we make when buying and modifying our cars.

If you like the look of the rims and their size and offset is suitable for the tyres you wish to run and the car you're running the on, more power to you.

Don't, however, immediately assume that an alloy rim will be lighter than a steel rim, or that rim weight will make any noticeable difference to anything. That's not a good reason to choose an alloy rim when the standard sierra rims are about as light a steel rim as gets.

I'm sorry if you interpreted that as negative.

The steel rims I just put on my Sierra 15x8 are about 8kg each, I'm not sure how much the 31 km2s are, however my Suzuki is not a light car with all the bar work and crap jammed into it. It drives nicely with new rims that are not bent and stuffed.

They are a nice looking rim you have, I don't think there will be much difference in weight. At the end of the day if you are happy with them what's a few extra or less kilos? If you are worried about weight Alien has a good point. Look at the rubber you strap to them.

Steve your rims would be heavy, they are some really really strong rims that are made out of really high quality materials, I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say that is the reason why you bought them?

Post subject:  Re: alloys almost ready..

I bought them because they were beadlocks and 15X8.5 3.75" BS.

I paid $1500 for 5, which seemed pretty good to me. I believe they're actually the first set of Walkers that ever came into the country and podiumed the outback challenge a million years ago.

At the time I was torn between 15's and 17's. 17's were going to be way too much money at the time tyres + rims for no real gain. I'm still super happy with the performance of the combination.

$1500 is a really good price! I looked into beadlocked rims for mine but just couldn't justify the money, they were a lot more then $1500 for 4 however. maybe on the next one.

Cheers.. Yes it is very rewarding. The boys and I get great satisfaction of restoring things. This little Zook has cost less than $2k all up and now it is a very reliable car that goes really well. They fitted a good 2nd hand clutch last night as well as rebushing the gear linkage. They have just both left to go play up at the Glass House Mountains power line tracks..It'll be very muddy when it gets home. Aren't gernies wonderful.. 8)
