OK so it seems we find our self in a situation where there is a metric crapload of useful information in some threads of old and people asking the same questions again later and aren't getting the info they need as people cant be bothered typing the same reply over and over and over, I had hoped from the outset the tech article section would cover most common stuff but there are still massive holes in there so I don't hold a lot of hope for it anymore :)

Some people don't seem to notice a similar thread already underway on the same page at the same time but ill leave that for another day
anyway some people say they try and search and come up with nothing

SuziBlu wrote:
Seems we bin gettin a bit grimboish here of late.

Some, like me, can search an search an come up empty handed, then while on the phone, say to mate here, i have search n searched but cannot finds it, 10 secs later he says, is this it.

Doh.

Using the right words will find a lot, knowing what words to use means shitloads.

I am hopeless at search, an will try, but bugger me, never find, so I ask.

Go easy on the ones who have no idea of the words to put in the search function mkay.

and some people seem to be able to search the right words to get straight onto the thread they need immediately, I guess it depends on if the person is a reader that takes in things that don't have an immediate interest in or only come looking for info they want now.

Anyway I want to try something, I now proclaim this the search thread, if you are looking for something you reckon there would be threads on, come here and try and describe it and everyone can have a crack at searching for it and to make it useful list what search term they used and how they come about it, might even be educational!

And in turn we can point people that are asking common questions and arent getting answers to this thread and maybe they might make a request to

This also has the added bonus of reducing the amount of my sierra wont idle threads so searching will then be better again

I might even throw a few easter eggs into some old threads and give away stuff to whoever finds it first, just to keep it moving 8)

if you can remember who posted the info always helps... i sometimes just search for a members name & the thing i'm looking for to narrow it right down.

just start a new thread and ask, just like everyone else does now :)

I just relised that people that understand the thread title likely dont need search help and people that need search help probably dont read a lot of threads anyway so this could be a big waste of time :)

3WD was always shit...i reckon i've been on there about 20 times max and it's always been crap.

The zook thread is dead on outers as well...it's like dak dak has become the new gwagen....except his advice... unlike steve's... is so far off the mark its laughable.

I'll give him points for being keen on his build tho...seems like he's fairly passionate about it...not that I agree with how he's building it...

i don't think there has been any decent tech on outers for a long time...auszookers is going alrite! Few dickheads popping up here tho as well!

people like atari has to stop advertising auszookers on outers as they all come over here!!!

haha...yeah wasn't having a dig at you exclusively...just noticed it a few times!

In the spirit of the thread does anyone know if the negative switching system for the headlights in a sierra is the same as that in something like a Toyota 70 Series? has this been talked about?

Aftermarket headlight looms on Yotas can be sorted with a circuit completer..wondering if the same is needed on a sierra? This is different to running relays and direct battery current.

Category "Shift it and Find it"

Search found 48 matches

Yes. And it's annoying when you think there is a new post but it's one of the stickies.

I usually click on New Posts Since Last Visit in the top right, then I get to read everything thats new, but don't usually see the stickies unless something new has been posted in it.

i think they go less noticed when they are seperated like they are here, but is there some way to keep the thread at the top of the normal threads without being seperated with a banner?

Ok, so I wish to look for what type of seats suit a sierra, I type in, "sierra seats"

I look an see there is a selection of places to search, as I have no idea, maybe people explain it in, I made it, maybe in chat as to questions, general yackity yack about seats, hmm, maybe tech stuff where its full on explained, so I just go for broke.

306 hits. scares me silly, so I go to chat and ask what seats suit.

I remember a post by someone offering all the diff types that suit a sierra, so Im gunna search it out. "Sierra Diffs", ahh shit, 385 hits, so I go n ask.

Usually, when I have a question, I make a phone call so I don't get crapped on for bein a bonehed.

My bookmarks bar is full of links to forums here that mean something special to me, seats, diffs, lifts, RUF of every type I can find, etc etc etc.

Type in 'Sierra', 'and', 'seats' and in Tech section that cuts it down to 62 threads.

very rarely you'll get the run around like the fellow member did today with the hilux power steering pump, I'm sorry for starting that TryHard...

if you can show that you've looked/searched/have a reasonable grasp of the situation most will come forth with info.

SuziBlu, those sections relate to the different sections of the forum but as you know we can fall off the rails pretty quick around here, the "and" option links the 2 words together to narrow the results down.

EDIT: FYI Grimbo, eldo thinks you're a tool & I agree with him.... surely you're reading this?

You type in "and" ok so I will try that, I didn't know.

"Sierra and seats" is better than "sierra seats" ? wow.

I type in "sierra and seats" get 307 hits, top hit is this thread, so I type in "sierra seats" same thing, 307 hits, this thread as the top hit.

Don't get me wrong, Im not looking for seats, may one day, but not on my list at the mo, seats were just what came into my head when I read this, so I tried.
