Posted this a couple of years ago, thought I would post it again as there seems to be a bit of diff talk going on at the moment.

Grave dig!
Just been searching, anyone know which Vitara had the 4.8??
Was it the Manual 2L v6 or 4cyl? Or both?
Are GV front the same size R & P as the Vits?? (EG they will go in Sierra housings!)

The 4.8 are defiantly out of the 2.5 V6 and I'm not sure but I think the 4.8 will fit in the sierra.
I put the Vit 5.1 into my GV and it had to be ground out a little so my guess is the 4.8 is smaller.
The centres are a different size too.

Who did the grinding there is quite a bit of thickness on the Ring.

Vit 5.12 fronts fit straight in the early V6 GV steel housings (hence such a common swap.)

Don't know anything about the Sierra equivalents, but hope that helps somehow...

2.0l man gv = 4.8
2.0l auto GV = 5.12
2.5 V6 man = 4.3 (steel diff housing)
2.5 V6 auto = 4.8.

X90 can also have 4.875

hi guys im new to this forum. was just wondering which LSD diff centres will fit in a vitara 97 jlx?

There are super rare sierra rear lsd's which would go in the front. I'm not aware of an LSD for the rear.

All up, much dearer and more hassle than real lockers with nowhere near the performance.

Was this model released here in Aus and if so would these gears fit in place of 5.125?

91 4 1.6L TBI 5 speed man. 5.375

Post subject:  Re: Vitara Diff Ratios

i dont believe we got 5.3s here

Post subject:  Re: Vitara Diff Ratios

We never got the TBI motors here. There are a small number of import escudos (Japanese market Vitaras) over here but many are three speed auto TBI.

The TBI motor was also used in the US in LWB's and these also had 5.375 ratios.

All up, for 5% reduction, not worth the hassle of finding/importing them.

Professionally fitted, that's a $1500 "solution" to gear 29" tyres on road.

Wow.

5.7s would gear mine for 32s, be out by 0.5%... 5.12s actually bring my GV within 0.5% for stock tyres... 60 on the dash is 60 on the GPS.

Post subject:  Re: Vitara Diff Ratios

Sure, but 90% of Vitaras run 5.12's, as you are aware.

In any case, I came across this today which confirms the original data in this thread:

Quote:
The 1991 Sidekick 4 door will have a 5.38 gear ratio. Only the 1989 2 door Sidekick running a 1.3 liter 8 valve motor came with a 5.62 differential ratio.

People still want the 5.38 ratio gears since they are also rare, but just not as rare as the 5.62.

That's from a reliable source on Pirate.
