Hey guys as you can see im loving this new forum, all my questions seem to fit here lol. To me though its just another place to learn Anyways! Hopefully someone has some ideas, not being from an automotive background i dont know too much about uni joints and that so hopefully someone can tell me if my theory is on the wrong track. This noise has been getting worse for the last few weeks and its doing my head in. It sounds to me like its coming from the front left hand side of the car. Ive cut it down to it only happening under load and only when i push down/let off on the accelerator. So changing gears and all that i can hear it all the time. EXCEPT if i press on the accelerator VERY VERY slowly and VERY VERY slowly let it off. I dont drive the zook like a hoon, so flooring it isnt something id do, but the speed i have to do it so it doesnt make the noise is just crazy. About a good 2 seconds. So that led me to thinking its gonna be some backlash or wear on something or something slopping around. If it helps it happens in every gear, but id more noticeable in 1st 2nd and 3rd. I know the gearbox is on its way out, so could there be a gear in there with a shit load of backlash? Or i was thinking also a broken mount somewhere jumping around? Any ideas what i can go look for would be great guys

More of a knocking sound than a tapping. Like of you put a loose gear on a shaft and then tipped it back and forth. Well that's what it sounds like to me lol.

before doing anything, check the u-bolts and shackles are all done up tight... then jack it up and feel for any wobble in any of the wheels (bearings).
you dont have mud on the inside of any of your rims do you? (would explain a vibration but not necessarily a noise).

Yeah alien I went over all the bits and pieces I put in when the noise started. Hopefully when I get a new gearbox it might solve it. If not it'll be down to mounts, drive line and transfer case I Spose?

Hey guys sorry for the double post, just having a play under the car after taking the missus to the shops. As far as i know, the unis should have no play in them right?
Well according to the service manual "prop shaft #1" has a shit load of play on the gearbox side, like alot of up and down movement. Id say a good 2-3mm maybe without putting a dial on it?
Are changing these over just a simple new for old job?

Haha yeah just did a search and watched the vid. Looks pretty straight forward, and with new unis being only $40 its worth a shot Cheers Atari.
