I have a recurring problem with the clutch cable on my Coily Sierra. The clutch cable pushes out the side of the cable carrier/sleeve rendering the clutch useless.
I have a Heavy Duty clutch which feels no heavier than standard pressure wise, the supplier told me that it was the go and had no troubles recommending them.
I had six months out of the first cable :( ,
6 days out of the last one :evil:
Am I doing some wrong installation wise? :oops:
Are the HD clutches to much for the cables?
Any assistance appreciated

I kept braking cables so I put a stock clutch back in and had no more issues

I have read on here that HD are no good for clutch cables in Sierras.

I also have the opinion that if the car is geared properly, you should get many many years out of a standard clutch.

Stock clutch, 6.5 trans gears and a heavy 5m tinny. The sierra was my tow car for 2 years and even with 6000rpm clutch dumps in 2nd low while towing the boat the clutch never slipped once.

Thanks guys, might install a new standard clutch. Have 4.16s on 30's, just can't keep cables intact. Broke transfer mount today n first breakage for a while.

Some people have problems, plenty more don't. I never had a cable issue with my HD clutch. Are you replacing with used cables?

make sure your cluth cable isnt running near anything really hot or rubbing as it can collapse from wear on the outer cable

regarding HD clutches - i run a HD clutch of a different sort... a Jimny clutch! The genuine jimny clutch has the same pressure as the exedy HD clutch, but its genuine suzuki... never had an issue with a stiff pedal or a snapped cable, and i'm on my 2nd jimny clutch now. Mine have both come from suzistore out of low km jimny wrecks... the current clutch i'm using had around 15,000km on it before it went into my sierra and it looked new.

Apparently Exedy list the same clutch for Jimny and Sierra too, so if someone in a Jimny fits a standard exedy clutch they will actually have less pressure than the factory one...

Have replaced with new Genuine Suzuki Cables!
Pushed out of the cable holder/sleeve at different places too.
Cant work it out. Cable is in the right places, adjustment is ok.

Mine had a HD clutch, 2 cables later within 1 year of each other, I went with a standard clutch, and 3 years on still good.

1 clutch cable broke in the middle of no where, limped it into town and I was stuck there for 4 days until parts arrived.

+1 on the standard clutch being fine if you have the right gearing.

You should also check that you have a good earth from your engine to body / chassis and your engine is not earthing through the clutch cable. This can cause them to fail early.

I reckon this is worth looking at.

I also like the aftermarket cables with the steel spiral outer, they seem to last a lot longer, new genuine cables are pretty crap
