Hey guys,

So earlier this year I bought a 1991 Vitara JLX and I noticed just recently that when my passenger side window is open (and very occasionally the drivers side window) i can hear a hissing noise coming from the engine on that side. It seems to be affected by the steering but im not really sure. The hissing isnt constant it is pretty randomly timed actually. Im just wondering if this is a problem or if there is no need to worry?

Obviously I would love to hear that there is no need to worry, but I'd also love to know what is making the noise and why.

Thanks,
Jake

It's pretty impossible to diagnose noises over the internet.

Try & record some decent video footage if you can.

What side of town are you on?

could be an exhaust leak, but its hard to say. You can pull the heat shield of the exhaust manifold and check for cracks, its a fairly common thing to happen.

I have a feeling it's not an exhaust leak it's a bit to irregular and inconsistent from my knowledge. Some days it is very obvious and regular and other days there is nothing at all. I'll try and catch it on video and see if that can give a few more details.
