Hey guys, I just finished rebuilding my carb (aisin model g13a) and it's running absolutely dreadful. It hardly idles it flatspots and has knocking sounds coming from the motor it's idling that bad. Was fine beforehand. First time rebuilding a carb but I'm pretty sure I've done everything right (everything is in the right spot at least) but obviously somethings wrong there's a few things on it I wasn't sure about during the rebuild like maybe the float for the needle isn't adjusted correctly I also had to make a custom spring for the bypass channel (the metal weight-spring-ball thing that pops out when you take the top of the carb off) but was told this wouldn't cause any major running issues (even if i used no spring) the other thing I'm not sure about is the accelerator pump it's installed correctly but doesn't seem to have as much movement in it as it should (doesn't retract enough possibly), and also the wax pellet ive aligned the choke marks but I took all that linkage/plastic cog crap off when rebuilding the carb I had no idea what position the wax pellet was in before reinstalling it all with the marks lined up, so I'm thinking that could definitely be causing problems.

I'm going to pull the carb out and go over it again making sure there's nothing wrong is there anything I should look out for that could be causing it to run this bad? It's definitely sometrhing I've done when rebuilding it, not too sure but i think it's running rich (or maybe even lean haha), it's that type of idle where it surges/splutters and runs like an absolute pig. It's a fuel mixture/pressure issue for sure. The car doesn't run for long either until it stalls, it's a very rough idle.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
cheers

It sounds like an air leak to me. Are you sure the carburettor is bolted up tight to the gaskets and that you have got all of the vacuum hoses in the correct places and no unblocked manifold vacuum takeoffs?

If it is rich, the exhaust will smell of petrol. (Note if it is misfiring it may smell of petrol even if lean too, but not as badly.) Float valve sticking causing flooding or incorrect jets? Choke stuck on (thermo wax pellet actuator disconnected or stuck)?
