Hi all

Decided on a 91 vitara soft top for a father son project on the weekend.
It was partly pulled down, head off, no exhaust manifold, auto not working and in the back seat, minus the bell housing????
Originally pulled down for oil in the coolant, possible head gasket.

Anyway, did some home work, going to go manual, wrecker said $800 for all I need for the swap? Hope that's close.
Have a gasket set on the way,

Got the engine on the engine stand. Cleaning it up and found a small crack in the block. Between #3 & #4 on exhaust side. Leaking coolant, but crack runs into oil gallery, possibly between the two but very small amount of water in the oil, considering the head has been off for about 3 years I don't think it's leaking into oil, don't think its the reason for the oil in radiator either.

Could weld it, but Google put us onto http://www.locknstitch.com. Ally screws that you tap into the crack and stitch them together. Cool idea worth a look.

Question,
Is the Transfer case from the auto the same as on the manual??

Question,
Wiring differences between auto and manual, eg, start in park/ clutch start switch??

Question,
G16A blocks prone to cracking??? Some images show webbing in the same area on some blocks, maybe the factory found this out???

Crack running between the arrows, not sure if it gets into the welsh plug hole??

Anyway, hi again. Post some more pics as we get something happening.

I'm on my phone ATM sounds can't post a detailed reply, but,

Yes cracks are common.
$800 seems a bit steep for a vitara manual and pedal box- I've thrown out quite a few- but the manual vitara runs a different carb too, so if it really is everything to convert it might be OK.

Wiring is easy. There's a round plug that connects to the auto which switches the starter interlock and reverse
lights. Easy to convert.

Transfer is the same.

Oh, and autos run 4.6 diff gears, manuals run 5.12. You'll really want manual diff gears.
