I recently got myself a '97 coily and so found this forum after looking for more info on it. I'm keen for some opinions on a few things too. Yes, I've searched the forums, but to be honest there's not much info on the coilys specifically, and it sounds like most the parts are different.

The car's got a 2" body lift, looks like a spring lift too, 31" A/T wheels and a weber carby. They're the only mods I can see. The speedo is bang on so either it's been recalibrated or the gear ratios have been changed to account for the bigger tyres....not sure which?

The first issue I found was that it's very thirsty. It's using 12L/100km on the freeway and up to 18L/100km offroad. My mechanic has said it's a combination of the weber carby and the bigger tyres, but I certainly wasn't expecting it to be that high. Anyone had a similar experience?

I did the Captain Fawcett Memorial Track down near Dwellingup the other day... Problem was I lost my exhaust at some point, just the last leg after the muffler. I only noticed after I was on the main road and the exhaust note changed when the muffler started spewing out what I'm guessing is a silencing material. So I'm in the market for either a new muffler and exhaust pipe, or I'm wondering whether it would be worth upgrading to say a 2" extractor/muffler/exhaust system. Any ideas?

Whats your engine rpm at 100kmh in 5th?

I tend to use less fuel offroad, but 12L/100km seems right, the more your lift and add bigger tyres soon changes the fuel consumption, some people sware by the webbers and some sware at them. Most remove the standard carby when they have stalling issues.

So I've had an exhaust fitted. It's 2" pipe with a straight through muffler, no cat or anything else....it's loud but not too loud. Only cost $350 which I'm pretty happy with.

At 100km/h in 5th it sits at 4000rpm...

Yeah,Welcome,plenty of Info. on Coily's but hidden away amongst all the hundreds/thousands of Thread here.
Not sure what happens in WA but very difficult to get one registered in NSW without a Cat.,had a new rear Muffler fitted last year and exhaust guy said it doesn't matter whether it works(until gas analysers are mandatory for Rego.) as long as it there.
