Hi guys,

Just picked my Jimny yesterday and turns out the rear wheel bearing is cactus. It's leaking and can't pass the road worthy until it's fixed.

My questions are, is $277 a reasonable price to replace it? I'd assume it'll take about 1.5 hours to replace. The wheel bearing kit was quoted at $85, labour $150 and oil $40. Sounds reasonable to me, but I want my oil in it.

Diff oil - I was looking at this http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online ... mendations. It's 2.5litres - will this be enough? How much oil do the diffs hold? Is this oil ok? Other suggestions?

Brakes - I'm use to sensitive, tight brakes. The Jimny takes a while to pull up, is this normal? What brake upgrade options do I have?

Thanks in advance!

You need 1.5 litres for the rear diff. 80w-90 hypoid differential oil

$277 for the rear bearings changed sounds like a bargain. Get that quote in writing and make sure it is for both sides.

If your Jim is high milage get new rear brake shoes at the same time as the bearings and throw in a fresh set of bendix front pads too. If the car is lifted make sure the rear brake proportioning valve has been modified to suit the lift.

Cheers dude! That oil should be okay then.

That quote was only for one. I'll get them to check that brake valve too, as it has been lifted.
