Hello Everyone,

Just a quick one that I couldn't find an answer to.

Looking at getting a suspension lift (once my gaming rig finally sells) and I've had my eye on an 'ultima' lift kit for a while, however while perusing the site, I also stumbled across a kit that is $100 cheaper. Catch is though, it doesn't come with a new damper or new standard shackles. The damper is no worries as mine is only 3000km old, however my shackles could be 30 years old (no idea if they've ever been replaced) however they look to be in really good order, straight with no dings or issues.

So question is; do I need to replace the shackles or will mine still be fine?

This is the kit; https://www.onlineautoparts.com.au/prod ... /ZPN-02498
After the discount for signing up, it comes down to $584 pickup from Brisbane.

Cheers!

dont bother with the cheap stuff. They will sag and wont perform the best.
If you want something to last buy a EFS kit from Dank.

Im running his leafs with Gabriel shocks all around, i couldnt be happier.

p.s stick away from longer shackles, they do funny things to your steering.

I ran OME medium springs all around with Gabriel shocks and I liked the ride that it provided as well. $115 a rear spring and $90 for a front, shocks are around $40 each. Around a similar price with better components. You can get good bushes from Bruce (memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=6) for pretty cheap as well.

Stick with the shackles you've got unless you have built up corrosion on the pins when you remove them.

Or the side plates are worn or cracked. This is quite common.

Cheers guys.

Definitely don't want extended shackles, so I'll be sticking to standards.
But wasn't 100% sure if people replace these commonly or not.

I'll hold off buying shackles until I inspect mine further.
So it seems to consensus is that these cheaper versions aren't much chop?

I've seen a few people swear by OME, then others detest them and say they are rubbish. And the same with every other brand out there.

Zook_Fan, are you running the hiace/commodore combination for shocks? As they obviously need to be longer but I'm unsure as to how much, which is why I was leaning to a full kit that's complete already.

Yes:
81147 Back - Hiace / Hilux
81340 Front - VS Wagon rears

If you go into a supercheap auto they will more than likely have these all the shelf. I prefer OME over all other brands I've tried for Sierra springs. And so far the tried list is Bluepac, Lovell, OME, OEM, Dobinson, EFS and tough dog. OME were the best performing out of these but once I went to 31" silverstone's and dual air lockers I was able to bend rear springs pretty easily. I stopped playing with the car, the next step was to put a track bar on it.

Ahh okay. Cheers Zook_Fan!

I might just start buying the parts slowly then I guess. I suppose when you work it out, it's pretty much on par price wise with the ultima kit.

I do plan on getting 30's and a rear locker in the near future. Will OME still be okay?
Cheers
