Hi Team,

Trying to find options to fit an LSD or Air/Auto Locker into rear of a 04 GV XL7.

I have sent a few hours googling but there are a number of inconclusive, non-2003-04-xl7 specific information.

Can anyone please point me into the right direction (hopefully Australia local)?

Thanks,
Leo

XL7s have larger axles than Grand Vitaras so the conventionally available lockers don't fit. Your best bet is to swap to a Grand Vitara diff (almost worthless second hand) and fit the appropriate locker to that.

Unless you're chasing big obstacles with very large tyres, I wouldn't worry about the strength of the smaller GV axles.

If you're interested in an auto locker then that may well drop straight into the rear. You'd have to investigate but I imagine the side gears are the same as GV, just broached differently for those axles. Personally, I probably wont fit an autolocker to the rear of any car again but I'm quite liking the it in the front.

Something that came up when I googled a similar thing was phantom grip LSD. Retro fits into your open diff. Only really good for sand though. Also mixed reviewed on if it does wear to your components.

Thanks guys,

Just looking for options at the moment, but not looking to go too hardcore, but at this rate there seems to be almost nil support for this XL7 unfortunately.

I have considered going down the phantom grip path but can locate any info on the xl7 rear diff?

The key to the phantom grip is in its name- “phantom” - it’s not a real, credible product.

I had a look around on suzuki-forums.com and pretty much the same, no options available other than changing to a GV rear (as above).

Found some workshop manuals, looks like a phantom grip won't fit the diff case (and thus no option on the website).
Might fit with modification but not worth the effort.

Stalk out a bloke here that goes by the name B4T or built4thrashing. You may need to ask this on the facebook page.

He'd be the best person to ask.
