Is there a method for determining if i have a 7/8 or 13/16 master cylinder without removal?

I would prefer to have the new part in hand before removing the old one.
A google search and ebay search showed no clear differences that i can tell.
Is there a difference in the braking system that can determine the size?

Any help would be much appreciated.

7/8" or 22.2mm.
