All Australian eleiverd LWB Vitaras (launched in 1991) were EFI.
All Australian delivered SWB vitaras were carry up until 1994/1995.
I'm surprised it has "electronic FUEL injection" on the engine, that came much later. In this period, suzuki engines were badged "EPI" or "electronic petrol injection"
It's possible what you're looking at is a JDM car, quite a few were imported. These have a throttle body EFI system on th 8 valve G16A. The engine bay looks like this.

I don't recall power figures on these. I'm sure they're better than the carb car
It's possible someone swapped in a G16B, but it doesn't make any sense swapping engines to make a car suzuki already made.
I don't know what your perception of what a 1.6 should feel like is, they're OK. the G16B has a pretty linear torque curve and they're adequate. The H20 is a high revving motor, they feel like they have next to no flywheel and feel like a short stroke motor, so they're not a good candidate for 4WDing. An auto helps but again, lack of gearing options are an issue. Personally, as the H20 is always in a heavy LWB, they have taller diff gears and they're often auto, the 2.0 feels like it has less torque and is working harder compared to an EFI 1.6 in a SWB car.
Vitaras use a direct drive transfer case in high range (1:1) and have a very tall low range (1.82) As a result, they use deep diff gears - 1.6 EFI cars are all 5.12:1 to make the gearing work. This offers little scope to offset taller tyres or slow the car to gain control off road. There are 4.2 low range gears available, but this is VERY low, so best suited for low speed crawling, but it doesn't lower high range at all, so if you have larger tyres and 4.2 low range gears the car is great off road but terrible on road. There are factory 5.38 gears from the US market and 5.7 gears from turkey, but they're expensive once fitted.
